King of the Fighters 86 Released
Posted by Niklas on 28 March 2002, 19:03 GMT

Delirious with fame from releasing Dragon Warrior, Thomas Williamson turned around and in 13 days created a fighting game. King of the Fighters 86 features AI players, 13 individual characters, a tournament mode, a stamina mode and on-calc help.

Also, Thomas offers his support if you would like to take a shot at porting his game to the 83 or the 85.

His it mean? Maybe it's because you have an error in your source? Hmmm... Oh well, get Borland C++ Command Line Tools, and UltraEdit ;p

Hm... is it just me, or are the most popular gaming calculators the 86 and 89? There's ALWAYS new games for them.

yeah , like take to day for example, look at the new 86 games.(there are none)
but i see what you mean, there are better games. Why would a programmer want to make a cool game with the 82/83/83+, they would have to actually program in asm!

if there was only a C or a C++ compiler for z80...

ah well. there are still a lot of good z80 asm programmers

Ummm... I think you are mistaken. There are C compilers for the 83/+ and 86, there are only 2(? or only 1) C games in asm for the 86. And most GOOD games for the 89 are programmed in ASM. The 86 has basically the same code as the 82/83/83+ so there!

There are many good 89 games written in C. Look at the programs on the linked page.

There are quite a few good games on the 89/92+ in C, though I would have to agree that there are more in assembly. Some examples would be: Blobby Volley, Dr. Mario, Duke68K, Evasive, Frogger 92+, George, Insane Game, Krypton, Moonbugs, Mr. Nutz, Rodent Revenge, SkiFree, TI-Chess, and TI-MineSweeper.

The C compiler situation is quite different on the TI-86 however, as there seem to be more compilers for the TI-86 than programs compiled with them. Among other problems, the TI-86 compilers (all that I have seen, at least) generate very poor code.

One thing I've noticed with TI-86 C compilers (while I was checking them out, I don't code with them ;o) lol) is that they mostly use 16-bit registers when they output assembly code. Of course I guess you could code in C, then optimize the poor outputed code.

Anybody have any ROM Images they could LEGALLY send me? (Yes, it is possible) I have a 82 and a 89. For the 89, I have a AMS 2.05 and the 82, I can't get it to romdump, so I need heeeeelp! (I don't think you can emulate the 73)
