Status update
Posted by ticalc.org on 2 November 2001, 21:21 GMT

Here is an update of the current status of our archives screening:

We are continuing work on the screening of our archives, but considering that there are more than 15,000 files in them, this will take a while longer. We are always looking at options to shorten this time. We are also going to be working with the authors of some of the popular programs that are in danger of being rejected in an attempt to resolv any issues and make it possible for the programs to remain in our archives.

Based upon the comments to the last news article, we would like to reiterate the fact that decision to temporarily close our archives was made by the ticalc.org staff, and we received no demands or threats about this issue.

At least one user has asked what will happen to the deleted files in case the only copy was on ticalc.org. To resolve this situation, we will keep the rejected files available for a period of time, during which the author can contact us to receive it.

Call for help
In our screening process, we would now like to ask for the help of our users. If you know of any file in the ticalc.org archives (wether it was on the CD or not is not an issue) that is in violation of our site policies (such as pornographic content or racist slandering), please let us know as soon as possible. Send a mail to webmaster@ticalc.org. If you still know it, let us know the filename and full path of the file. If this is not available (and we know it can be hard, since the archives are still down), please include the calculator model, whether it's basic or assembly, and wether it's a game or a program.
Your help in doing this will hopefully make our screening process faster.

Could (anyone at TI Calc can help me with this) tell me the names of the programs/games that was reported to TI. I am sure that the ambiotious(wrong spelling?) parents would complain by naming names. Just through us a bone and gives a few so we can grumble about how that aren't so "bad" or "immoral" or "the imbodiement of Satan!"

For anyone that's interested I have gotten a reply from the big cheese themselves, TI. They said, "...descriptions of
violence, strong language, use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco and mature
sexual themes, and some cartoon-like graphics."

I think that speaks for the drug war games with many other games that are out there. I wonder if they are all being removed from the archives or just the CD. TICalc's disclaimer mentioned only nudity or pornography (that I know of) and not the other stuff TI mentioned. Is there a conflict of morals, a clash of the titans!

Please remember that the CD and the archives are *not* the same thing, and they are not bound by the same rules.

I know. I was just saying thinking of the number of files on the CD that would fit that description. How come TI said they weren't affiliated with the CD and had nothing to do with it and then they recall it after they find stuff on it they didn't like. Don't answer that, it was rhetorical. I am actually happy that TICalc is making an effort to take out pornographic material out of the archives. I am just giving you guys a hard time :)

would you be able to get a list of people and e-mail them people when you reopen the archives so we don't have to chack the site all the time?

New Poll Idea
Marcus McG  Account Info

I have an idea for a new poll:
Do you know how the processor and circuitry of the calculator works?

I would like to see just how many people still think that electronic stuff is "magic".

Well, when you press the numbers, they're downloaded to the computer inside, and it changes the numbers by what you tell it to do. It also generates real 100% random numbers.

the numbers produced by the calculator are NOT random. howstuffworks.com has an article on this. click the above link for the article.

Actually, they're pretty good, what with the r register and all. Oh, and the ti86 at least uses a method which your article doesn't discuss.

i love howstuffworks.com, best site on how stuff works... if you don't go there often, i highly recomend it... has excelent descriptions on binary language, CPU's, DVD's, ETC... ANYTHING you can think of (anthrax, volcanos, etc...) but this article didn't really get on the date and time thingy... don't calcs use a timer or something like that? i don't like that pseudo thingy cus you can get the same pattern.

and then the magical blue fairy makes blue pixels appear on the screen of the TI-85... and the black fairy works in the TI-89... and they send a prayer up to God and he gives them the right answer.

The white fairies are working all the time on all the screens, just be careful not to turn the contrast up and burn them out.

only on the TI-89; otherwise it's the yellow fairies.
Don't forget the red and green fairies on the CASIO color graphers! They're currently in a 'equal rights' legal battle.

Don't forget blue. the casio color calculators actually don't have a black, but on inequalities, there is a light yellow, which is very cool.

Everybody knows that little Harry Potters fly through wire on tiny broomsticks to make magic work. And one-way signs make diodes, a large highway merging into a single lane makes resistors, and Z80 is the name of the game they play since quidditch is old.

In all seriousness, I want to port tidev and tilib to the Agenda VR3 palmtop. Give me back the unix archives! If you want send them to me as a zip/rar/tar. I will put them on my server and let people use them. Just give me back the unix archives.

Censorship is a good idea for a poll. I think that you should leave the archives up and search through them while they are online. We all know that the real reason for this is that ytour are wasteing all the sites bandwidth on file-shareing networks, and you are too greedy to give back to the community. But then again I only have a pitiful 256 kb/s internet connection. I had a copy of your archives downloaded, but I lost it when my &@*# windoze 2k server got rooted(sorry "admined"). I have COMPLETELY forsaken windoze. Not even my dependance on VB will make me go back. Long live the penguin! Tux forever.

I want a penguin on every desktop /tivo /playstation2 /dreamcast /mac /palmtop /robot / and a blowfish(OpenBSD) on every server. Too bad linux won't run on a z80. I would love to see bash on an 83+ se. When will a new 92+ come out?

There's a difference between not knowing exactly how the circuit works and thinking that it's magic.
