TI-83+ Recall
Posted by Eric on 2 November 2001, 02:25 GMT
TI has announced a recall of some TI-83+ calculators with duplicate ID numbers. Normally, this wouldn't be a huge issue, but since a unique ID is required to install FLASH applications, it poses a problem for the TI-83+. If your calculator ID has a string of seven zeroes after the first three digits, contact TI to rectify the situation. More info can be found on their news page.

Has anyone contacted TI and determined that there is actually any sort of a recall? TI's site says "please call 1-800-TI-CARES or email ti-cares@ti.com, and reference 'Duplicate TI-83 Plus ID Number', for details on how to rectify the situation." They may be replacing the calculators, but there could also be some other solution. Perhaps I'll give TI a ring tomorrow and see what they actually have to say.

I've used their flash app online store before (when they were giving out the free ones), and the only problem with them having duplicate ID numbers is that there's a one in a million chance you'll find someone with the same one and share TI's programs without paying for an extra copy.
