ti-cas.org Programming Contest
Posted by Eric on 9 September 2001, 07:39 GMT

ti-cas.org has announced a programming contest that's being sponsored Texas Instruments. The rules seem to be pretty open-ended, so check the contest webpage for more detailed information.

Update (Eric): I've been informed by ti-fr.org that they're also running a similar programming contest where you must create a utility for the TI-89, TI-92, or TI-92+.

I am restricted from the site. Stupid crap. What's the contest involve? Just make any program of any type and if it's the best it wins, or what? Stupid, stupid crap...

Anyone know what the prizes are? Are all programs eligble, or just math programs? ti-cas.org doesn't explain it very well.

The english version of ti-cas explains it rather well if you read it... Some things, such as whether you have a choice of 83+SE or 92+, you get them both, or you get the one corresponding to your entry, are unclear. It also seems that there are more rules than that are stated there; for example, submission of trademarked programs (usually games), such as Tetris, Keen, Mario, Megaman, and the like, is not allowed.

ti-cas is gay!
I wish ticalc.org can resume their contests and POTD nominations.

I think ticalc.org made a good decision in discontinuing POTM. It lost all its meaning when Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator won.

I agree, but I still would like to see POTM. Maybe with different rules.

"1 Fun Kit"

What's that Fun Kit, by the way? An AMS upgrade? ;-)

Re: Re: Re: ti-cas.org Programming Contest
Beta

The Fun Kit is the new package that contains the ticalc.org CD and two slide cases: green and blue. It goes for maybe $10 or $15.

Oh, then it won't be of any use to me, since I will be getting a ticalc.org CD anyway, and I own a TI-92+.

     10 September 2001, 05:26 GMT

Or is the "Fun Kit" without the CD?

Maybe you'll consider entering cuz they took the CD out

Unfortuneately, the TI-FR contest seems to be limited to French-speaking programmers (at least that's one the English version of their rules page says =)

The TI-CAS one seems to be a much more open ended contest than most previous contests (any calculator; only real restriction is that shells are not allowed)

'French-speaking' can be interpreted in many ways. If you can say 'hello' in French.... :-)

According to a post on TI-News, the rules have been changed to allow everyone to enter (the concern was over shipping costs outside of France).

Ok the rules seem rather vague to me, because it is just to program something in general.

So what if youve already created a game and posted it? Can you still enter it? I mean, Patrick Davidson could submit his "new" Phoenix game and say its for the competition...does the page mention anything about this?

And also, will the programs made in BASIC and ASM be judged differently?

I'd have to agree... the rules (at least what was translated to english) seem to allow for pretty much anything. Since the nationality restriction was removed, I'd just assume Jimmy could submit Sqrxz and send the rest of us packing.

In fact, there never was restriction concerning nationality. It is an, I had not updated the page!
For recall, it's authorized to present a program already created.
If the authors of the library (as graylib #...) gives their agreement, it is thus possible to use them.
Do not hesitate to ask me further informations !

anybody read stuff magazine? i do. i just got the october issue in the mail yesterday (9-10-01). i read part of it last night. if you have the mag, turn to page 18. read the letter titled "death to millions endorsed by reader." it references a past issue with an article on disasters. the letter says taht the magazine "completely ignored the threat to New York City" from basically a terrorist attack. the letter was written by Jason Fialkoff of Woodbury, New York. the magazines response: "Jason, you aren't supposed to write that shit down, Remember? The plan? Now you've ruined everything!" Ok, I woke up this morning and turn on the tv and see a fucking jet knock down the world trade center.

Now tell me. Is this all just a big fucking coincidence or does this Jason guy know something. You know, I could understand this letter appearing, but in an issue of the magazine that went on shelves a day before the attack? Makes you think, huh.

That's just my opinion, I'm most likely wrong.

It was probably just a joke, no one ever seriously expects that to happen. Sometimes people go to far when they joke. It's one thing to say that in the company of friends and another to publish it in a magazine. Who in the right mind thought this was going to happen. But anyway NYC is a disaster waiting to happen. I saw a show on hurricanes and it said if NYC took a direct hit from a major hurricane (120+ mph) you would be staring down the possiblity of 1,000,000 dead. The fact is NYC is so densly populated that anything happening there will end up with a ton of casulties.

just out of curiosity... how big of a deal is this in other countries? i know here in the US of A, that's all we talked about in my history class... and i also know that other countries are being effected by this. but how big of a deal is this in other countries? i predict we never find out who is behind it. (even though binladen is my best guess)(stupid afghanistan guy said it can't be him cus it's too complex... ok... all we need is a few cell phones and a few guys who can steer planes[don't even have to know how to land]... how complex is it really???)

Just remember that other countries use dd/mm/yy instead of mm/dd/yy so in other countries, it would be 11/9/01.

very good point but i think that if the date was intended to be significant that they would have used the system used in the country and judging by what the fbi already thinks he has done here i think he'd know how to use our date. of corse i could just be giving more credit to a coincidence and we might be attacked on november the ninth

at least they stopped them in the airports early;)
