Balloon 86 Released
Posted by Eric on 30 May 2001, 20:58 GMT

BalloonTo continue on this recent deluge of TI-86 material, we bring you a port of Andreas Ess's classic TI-85 side scrollers, Balloon v1.0. Up until now TI-86 users have been able to run Balloon with a TI-85 emulator, but finally we have a TI-86 version as well, thanks to Andreas Finne. In case you're not familiar with the concept, Balloon's a game where you're trying to weave your way through traps, enemies, and that danged phenomenon some call gravity.

That could be cool if you port it to 82/83/83+
That is an idea :)

I don't own a TI86. Does this game scroll, or it a single screen game?

From the article: "To continue on this recent deluge of TI-86 material, we bring you a port of Andreas Ess's classic TI-85 side scroller, Balloon v1.0."

Too many BASIC programs is right. At least they could release this really sweet Yahtzee game that I created for the TI-92+. I contributed it like a month ago, and I didn't think it would take that long.

I'm amazed by the number of people I know with calcs that don't know how to use the BASIC capabilities. I mean, that's oneof the big features you're paying for.

Level editor?
SmartGamer Account Info
(Web Page)

The level editor keeps giving me a "runtime error 200" when I try to compile the level. (It doesn't compile even though it says it does, by the way.) It is a documented error- If you used the Borland Turbo PASCAL Compiler, v3.2 or earlier, you will get this error on all Pentium IIs and all PIIIs, probably on P4s too; some, but not all, P1s do this, but it works on 486 or lower.

I have a superfast P3 in my system; therefore, I'm getting the error.

Does the LE work for anyone? If it does, let me know (sgamer@swbell.net) and I'll email you the OBJ file, if you're willing to compile it for me... you'd get named in the credits ;-)

Anyone using a 486 out there? Anyone at all?

It won't work on fast PCs (faster than the avg 486) because of a bug in the crt unit. But there's a patch for it, so the author should recompile the prog, or you can run a patcher over it (look for tppatch.exe)

FINNALLY!!!

I am so glad that people are releasing a bunch of stuff for the 86. I am the only one in my school with a link cable, and just about everyone in my school uses an 86. It is a school of about 1200. I am always giving people new games, and I am finally able to get them some new stuff. Keep up the great work!

Also, IMHO, the 86 is TI's second best calc. The 89 is better, but most high school people don't get it because we still have to take the ACT's/SATs and it isn't allowed on the ACTs. Here in Iowa, that is the most common one. Also, our math classes are taught on the 86 (by me; our teacher teaches with his 81 for the students that don't have a calc.) Really, it is a matter of what level you are at. For college students, the 89 is the best choice, but if you still have to take the ACTs, the 86 is the best. The ideal situation is to get and 86 and an 89, but we can't all afford that. Sorry, I am rambling on, but I don't post all that often.
