New TI Sweepstakes
Posted by Eric on 10 May 2001, 07:36 GMT

Continuing its recent unprecedented trend of offering prizes galore, TI has announced a new "Wanna Win a Car?" Sweepstakes. This seems to be the latest in TI's efforts to publicize their new website (There, we linked to it. That should be enough publicizing :). Anyway, if their intentions aren't clear enough, the potential prizes should be: they've got camcorders, backpacks, walkmans, T-shirts...and oh yeah, a 2001 Ford Mustang. Check it out if you're interested.

I would opt for the $15,000 in place of the Mustang, as I already have a sports car :)

Jap Crap Rice Burners
onefastfiveoh

oh don't even knock a mustang. i own 5. i take them to the strip on a regular basis and i have never lost once to a jap crap rice burner. i have an '89 gt running a paxton supercharger. a '92 lx running NOS and a paxton. '98 cobra, daily driver, some mods. a '71 mach one, stock engine. and an '85 with a 347 stoker, paxton, NOS, plus other gofast goodies. all have hooker headers, bassini x pipes, and flowmaster 2-chamber cat-backs. the '85, '89, and '92 have a complete suspension and drive train set up for racing. the '85 has around 900hp and runs low 8's, high 7's. all the cars are still streat legal, even in california.

anyway, i wouldn't want to win the mustang from ti because it will be a shitty v6 with no options. i'd take the money spend it on one of my cars.

and just to show you that i am not a complete ford freak (FORD: Fucker Only Runs Downhill), i also own a '99 dodge ram with the v10 viper engine. it halls ass. it will beat your jap crap.

if you are so damn rich and you have a viper engine in your truck, then what the hell are you doing worrying about rice rockets? I think that you are plain lying. anyways i have a 280zx w a modified turbo gets 0-60 in 6 seconds; and we also have a 300zx twin turbo, w lots of modifications to even mention.. and that gets 0-60 in less than 5 seconds.. i dont think that ur crappy mustangs will beat that. i dont even have a supercharger or nitrous.. if i get that ur stupid fords will be toast....

     11 May 2001, 17:19 GMT

Re: Re: Jap Crap Rice Burners
onefastfiveoh

for one, the viper engine is only a few k more.

ooohhh, 0-60 in five seconds. in my '85 i ran a best of 7.86 at 178 mph. i hit 60 in the first 60' the '92 ran a 8.55 at 140 mph. these are quarter mile times dipshit. your rice burner won't do a quarter in under 10 seconds. hell, the '98 cobra hits sixty in 5.2 seconds and it hasn't been modified that much.

turbos suck. they have a bad lag off the line. sure a twin turbo picks up some of the lag, but is still bad. nitrous is about the best power adder you can get for the money. NOS will sell you a kit for well under a grand that will give you an extra 700+ hp. lets see a turbo do that.

i agree, not all jap craps are crap. they are built to last. they run good even when they have well over 100k miles on them. but if something goes wrong, you have to pretty much ship the whole damn car to chinatown just to get it fixed.

maybe you should check out ford specialty vehicles operations '02 focus. you can read about it in this months issue of 5.0 MUSTANG & SUPER FORDS magazine. it's aimed at young buyers and people who own rice burners. for only 18k you can get one hell of an entry level 'performance' car. oly 170 hp, but it is light weight. i am actually thinking of buying one as a daily driver.

and as for if i'm lying. come to fort dodge, iowa and i'll take you for a ride. do you want me to send you a map?

Woah, some gearheads at ticalc! (No offense intended)

He is right about nitrous though, that will toast your engine unless you have some special schtuff. My friend knows all about it though, I don't mod cars or anything, just listen to his babblings and I know other people who've toasted their engines by running nitrous though it...

I agree with everything you said, but shooting 100-150 PSI of nitro into an unfortified engine would probably blow it up after a few times.

PS - Why do they call these things rice rockets? Only half that statement is true - the rice part. What do underpowered buzzing econo-cars have to do with rockets?

You are both wrong.
Rice boyz are just private school preppies that don't know enough to build a real car. They just put horrible spoilers on crappy cars and call it good. Or, in thier language: rYCe B0yZ suC
Ford gear heads, though better than Rice boys, still drive inferior machines. Long live any Chevrolet put out by The General.

Those cars sound badass! I'll take you up on that if I'm in the area. My dad's got a '73 w/ a mild 351 C 4V, 18 inch wheels, and deep blue lacquer... Every drive is like a dream...

P.S. spoilers on FWD imports?? They look good, but have no function on the car, except hurting gas mileage.

Re: Re: Jap Crap Rice Burners

No supercharger or nitrous? A turbo could be more powerful than an S/C (at times). That doesn't count?

"Crappy Mustangs"...that's an oxymoron

BTW(#1): A stock GT can beat your first car (0-60 in 5.4)

BTW(#2): Guess what would happen if you put a twin blower on a 'Stang? You'd get far under 5.

BTW(#3): 0-60 isn't the best way to measure performance, the 1/4 mile is.

Couple of points:

1. Taking the money would be a better decision. You would have to pay taxes on the car immediately. If you get the money, you don't have to pay until income tax time.

2. Not all Japanese cars are crap.

3. If I remember right, the V10 used in the Ram pickups has very little in common with the Viper's motor. (read that in Road and Track, or something) Nonetheless, it still produces a healthy 300 hp and a good amount of torque.

it's the same block and many other components are the same. sure it doesn't have the hefty 450+hp, but it still kicks ass. i am working towards getting a supercharger for it.

Sorry, man, I love these trucks, too,
but the block is not the same. Yours is iron, there's is aluminum. As I'm sure you already know, the heads and induction are different. In addition, if you ever go to get a performance cam ground for your truck, you'll see that the two engines use entirely different cam cores. This follows through for pretty much every other piece in the short block. Much of the exterior equipment on the engine is different, too. I'm not criticizing you, here, but they're related engines, but not the same.

"Mustangs aren't that fast?"...I'd like to see you say that at the track. TI happens to be giving away the non-GT (V6) one, which isn't as fast as a Mustang could be. Faster? How fast does your ricer go? Cheaper? You get what you pay for. Half the cylinders and half the weight of a GT/Cobra/Saleen. Just about any 8-cylinder 'Stang could blow the doors off of most ricers.

PS - Why do they call these things rice rockets? Only half that statement is true - the rice part. What do underpowered buzzing econo-cars have to do with rockets?

Not all Japanese cars are economy cars. Sure, when you think of a "modified" Jap. car, you picture one of those hideous Civics with wings and stickers and such, but you really shouldn't make a generalization that all japanese cars are economy cars.

Grow up and run a V8, boy! Just playing, but riceburner exhaust tone and torque figures never moved me like those of a Mustang/TA/Vette. Yeah, Stangs aren't that fast factory, but look at the Saleen, Roush, Steeda! high $$$ though :( Oh yeah, nice sweepstakes, TI.

Well, these do have some reason to be posted, and that reason is that it dosen't say:

"First comment"

instead it says

Some relevant stuff then "First comment". Hey, mankind has a competetive spirit. It dosen't matter if it is winning an olympic gold, or getting a first comment on just 1 article on a site about TI calculators, people will always, and I mean ALWAYS try.

It's just that we have to prove that we're a bigger nerd than the next guy. Personally, I check ticalc.org for new news every 5-10 minutes while i'm online, and have gotten 1st post maybe twice.

BTW, you're right about the rule, if I get 1st post, I won't mention it.

FORD mustangs suck ass. its the truth. Honda arnt only cheaper, but they run forever (ford: found on road dead) and they get better gas miles, they are easily modified, and Tyler, the owner/pres. of X Rated has a 500whp Acura Integra GS (GS, yeah thats a non vtec) if you don't believe me go to www.xratedcc.com and look at his old dyno run. it was before he put the new turbo and AEM ems system in. it was like 420whp or something then now its 500+. so i would not take the ford, or if i did, i would use it as a pisser, or if it was lucky a winter beater.
