Phoenix v1.0 Released
Posted by Eric on 14 February 2001, 23:40 GMT
Hmm...we haven't posted on Phoenix in a while, have we? Well then, Patrick Davidson has come up with a pretty substantial update to the Z80 series of his popular shoot-em-up game. Finally the versions for the TI-82, TI-83, TI-83+, TI-85, and the TI-86 rival the original versions for the 68K calculators (well, except for the screen size, of course). An external level set has also been released; see the file updates section for more.

Yes, I always have new projects. Unfortunately, it seems that I always have far fewer new releases.
For the Z80 calculators, I really only have two "new" projects besides this. One, of course, would be a grayscale shoot-em-up game (which is more like a "sequel" to this one than just an update to it). The other is a platform game, ehich I have only barely started on. This one (the "classic" Phoenix) is not quite finished either; as you can probably guess from various other programs I have released, I rarely stop at version 1.0.
I do have projects on the 68K calculators as well. The foremost of these is the sequel to Phoenix there, Phoenix II, which is of course in grayscale. A test version of this (which had the grayscale graphics implemented, but no shop or high scores, and about half the levels of the "classic" Phoenix) was semi-released a few months ago, but didn't seem interesting to many people. Anyways, over the next few months, the gameplay has been redesigned, and backgrounds added, and many other things, making this quite an old "new" project. I do hope to at least release version 0.01 of this fairly soon.
I don't really want to limit myself to this forever, so I have thought of also starting an RPG for the Z80 calculators, as well as a platform game and a Wolfenstein-like game on 68K.
Of course, please keep in mind that I'm not promising that any of the above will ever be released (I'd like to think I know better than to make promises about future programs).

Cool, no offence 'cause Pheonix is the best game ever, but it gets kind of old after beating it lots of times. The External levels will make this game 10 times better!

Wow I agree, the levels for the 85 are pretty coll, but after time and time o beating it, it gets redundant. After adding externeal levels, it should get very interesting. Keep up the good work!
