RPG Renaissance, Part II

Looks like Justin Karneges, who's been pretty dormant in the TI scene for the last couple of years, has suddenly sprung to life: "After seeing the post about Dying Eyes 83+, we thought it might be possible to port Joltima to the TI-83+ as well. Hideaki Omuro started by making an optimized version for the TI-82. He even added some new graphics and the game was still 3k smaller than the original. Then, with a little bit of CrASH magic, it was ported to the 83+ and it actually works! This new optimized version of Joltima was then ported back to the TI-83, and David Phillips helped out to make new TI-85 and TI-86 ports." So thanks to Sam Heald for inspiring this, and you can now proceed to download Joltima for the TI-82, TI-83, TI-83+, TI-85, and the TI-86. Phew. And just so we can increase our links-per-news-article ratio some more, here's another: the Joltima homepage. Check out screenshots, a features list, and other useful specs.

It is important to remember that the 89 and 92(+) are the more powerful calcs that can be used more readily in RPG's. I remember hearing somewhere that the screen buffer on the 89 and 92(+) is far larger than those on the Z80 calcs, allowing much faster scrolling, therefore better RPG's and bird's eye views for games like the Bomberman clones(BigDyna, Bomberboy, Bomb89, BomberMaze).
It is a good idea to port this to the 68k calcs. I can't do it, but there is always someone out there who can.
BTW, I think I have the first comment.

Wow. All these TI-83 Plus games, applications, etc., and so little time to use them. Hey, start working on something like modems for the calculator. :)

It is great to see a renewed interest in TI-RPG's...all the best Calc RPG programers quit making games years ago, and now because of the 83Plus software most people don't even know about any of the great RPG's calculator. I hope that more people will continue to port 83 RPG's to 83Plus, I also hope that this sparks some creativity in the programing world and that we get more Calc RPG's. I work with Alienhead productions, creator 2 Gundam Wing RPG's, and we are curently working on a full conversion of the SNES game Chrono Trigger, I hope that when it's released gamer's will be craving new RPG's because of this recent trend.
