I downloaded it (at 837 Kb per second! Seven seconds for 5.79 Mb! I love college!) and I don't think that most programmers will want to use it. The combination of the TIGCC compiler, library, and IDE, along with VTI make for a much better environment for the type of programming that most people want to do (games :-). The TI-89 simulator included with the SDK won't run most games, and the SDK doesn't include any provisions for things like grayscale or DoorsOS programs. And it most certainly will never include special features designed to bypass TI's protection mechanisms like TIGCC does! I think the most valuable resource here is available right on the front page for the SDK - the 1302-page PDF file documenting everything there is to know about the TI-89's software (and maybe hardware later when the final release comes out). This SDK focuses heavily on FLASH app programming (as shown by the name - TI FLASH Studio) and since signing FLASH apps costs money, most people won't want to make them.

I just got the SDK too. 300kb/s, so about 20 seconds to download. Not bad considering I only pay 40 bucks a month, instead of 30k+ for college tuition ;-). I agree, TI-GCC is better, but the documentation from TI will probably be fairly useful.

I did, at least for the last few revisions. I can recite a substantial portion of it by memory, and I've already got a couple of the new routines down - TI finally gave us some of the routines we asked for in alpha =)

is that 1302 page thing the optional download that's like 4KB large or is it included in the SDK? did anyone get an error when they tried to open the SDK because i can't open mine

Insult MacOS X all you want, but don't insult Mac's in general. I have a Dual G4 500MHz tower sitting in the other room, and it definately doesn't suck and is DEFINATELY better than any Windows machine that I have ever seen, even the latest AMD Thunderbird 1.3GHz machines from Alienware.

MacOS X wasn't worth the $25 Beta fee, I will say that. I can't believe Apple would have the gull to make people pay for a POS beta that is finally along the same architecture lines as Windows and Linux.

FYI, Linux is far superior to windows in everyway an OS can be...& don't tell me there is lack of software, you just haven't taken the 3 seconds to search for the few websites that will hook you up with anything & everything you need a linux program to do.

Personally if I ever bought a Mac (which I wouldn't cause I like to upgrade the hardware internally) I would go for the one running the Linux clone anyday. (Intell has thrown their reputation in the dumpster - Go with AMD :p )

When did windows become an Open-Source OS? Last I saw, it was a closed-source OS... I was referring to *BSD or *nix. Technically, though, all *BSD's aren't open source and neither are all *nix's.

Ok, I have a question... why don't some of you program for the windows ce platform instead of wasting all your time on calculators? I've found it's much better to prog. for ce seeing how they even have REAL languages like c, scheme, and python available.

Well first of all, I don't have a Win CE, Pocket PC, or a Palm computer, and most people I know don't own one. Also, I don't think that making a game that entertains thousands of people is a waste of time. I really enjoy it when I get an email from someone halfway across the world saying that they liked playing my game.

Assembly is certainly a real language. The problem is that it's *too* real. C is also available for the calculators. If you wanted to run Scheme, it would not take very long at all to find a Scheme interpreter written in C and recompile it for the calculator.

First of all, the WinCE SDK Tools cost in excess of $179.00 (the last time I checked, which was when I bought my HPC 2 years ago). Secondly, you have to own Micro$oft Visual Basic 6.0, or Visual C++ 6.0. I have VB5, but only use it for school purposes. Delphi is better! But anyhow...
Why spend money on all that, when TI-GCC is completely free! And the TI-89 costs less than any WinCE HPC or PPC that I have ever seen.

The SDK for WinCE 2.1 and WinCE 3.0 (PocketPC) is now free (you just have to pay the shipping and handling). And you don't even have to get a MS Visual Studio because it's already integrated in a special version.

Because you can play with your calc in math class.

first off, i read an article from TI that when an ASM program is used that is over 24kb it COULD crash the calc, and possibly never turn it on again. I didnt read the whole article but if you want to its somewhere on www.ti.com.
