Screenshot Staff, Part 2
Posted by Nick on 15 October 2000, 23:30 GMT

Remember me? I thought not. Well, you may not have seen me much on the external side of the site, but I've still been working pretty hard internally to make sure everything doesn't break.

I've also been in charge of the screenshot staff. These happy folk have the position of - duh - screenshotting all the files in our file archive. We had a fantastic turnout the first time, so hopefully this time will be just as good. We've screenshotted 41.26% of the files in the archive, so things have been going very well. This time, there's a much better chance you'll get on. Trust me. All you need to do is fill out our happy little application thing and email it to ss@ticalc.org. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.

If you applied before and you didn't make it, email me and we can talk. I'll try to contact all of you sooner or later; college is quite the workload. Thanks, everyone! :)

Yeah, I actually applied for the screenshotting staff in the beginning, but got rejected. :( Well, I'm actually kind of happy because I wouldn't have had time to do any of the screenshotting anyway. I'm too busy working on my site. Every time I'm online, I'm working and updating my site. I would've only been able to do one a day. So I guess I should say thanks to Nick for kicking me to the curb!

Yes, it was a joke. I wouldn't seriously expect the ss staff to waste time on 81 programs when there are so many better programs that need screenshots.

btw, both of the discontinued calcs (81 and 85) are still more popular than the 73.

Hey Nick! Glad to hear from you again! I am asking everyone NOT to sign up for the s/s staff becauase, that way, Nick will have to plead with us longer, and we get to see more of that uber 'leet llama!!!! Err, yeah, just my two cents worth.

p.s.
Anyone else notice that ticalc has it's own SS now? Kinda scary eh?

(;

     16 October 2000, 01:17 GMT

oh, i'm sure you'd *like* us to believe that
ticalc_staff_are_slackers

hmm... everythings going really well, so sign up more people? sounds fishy to me.

my guess is they're either recruiting people for slave labor so nick can have his 300 acre mansion, or they didn't have any goats so they had to sacrifice the screen shotting staff every time somebody's calculator crashed.

in any case, if you apply and they want you to sign something in your own blood, run.

I've written my own name in blood before. I accidentally stabbed my finger with a compass in geometry 2 yrs ago and said, "What the heck, I'll write my name in blood." It started to smell pretty bad though so I had to throw it out. It was starting to smell like rotten-fishy-paper.

I'd take a cozy apartment in the city over a 300 acre mansion. That is, as long as said apartment had a fat Internet connection.

Perhaps it is because you can't do any work? The *biggest* thing to get in here is to DO WORK!!! This is not for your own fame and fortune. It's to help these guys out! I'm currently on the (remaining) SS staff (3to16) and I've done the most work so far... I've been kicked off my computer for about a month now by parents, so I couldn't help for the time being. But that's no excuse and I am making my return soon. To reitterate, YOU WON'T BE HERE LONG IF YOU DON'T DO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!! Peace and love!

I can't speak for Nick, but as the Review Staff editor, due to the high volume, I only respond if the person has been accepted. If you weren't accepted, you either didn't follow the directions or (most likely) your sample review was not up-to-standard (spelling/gramatical errors, too short, etc.).

So agreed. I *was* one of the sreenshot staff but due to the amount of work it required and all that crap that took place in my life (requiring time) I had to drop (I was like the fourth to drop). But I must say, from personal experience, that it is a lot of work and requires a lot of time and patience (escpecially when starting off!). I promise you that getting the routine down takes forever! Anyways...only apply if you *SERIOUSLY* have time on your hands.

Darn it. This sounds mad l33t but I have no time. I need a @ss.ticalc.org Email! My unl33t Email address that I normally use is @yahoo.com and my only l33t one is @dmozed.org (heck, I don't even have an Email address at any of my own domain names! maybe I should be something like kewl.d00d@ti-89.org). Oh well! I guess I'll have to let someone else take the screenshots. I still can take my own anyway, as I normally do. One of the screenshots for my programs that someone else took is completely blank! I think that taking one's own screenshots is still the best solution, as you have motivation to make them look l33t, whereas others might not care about them looking quite so perfect.

And I have to tell ya that since your departure from the ticalc news, Uruguay lost all soccer matches outside home... It's not very related, but there's paralelism here. Ehm, Eric is doing a great job anyway.

Well, talking about screenshots, I would recomend you to revise some screenshoted basic programs...some of them have useless screenshots with no sence of aport. Thanks! And congratulations to the screenshot team for their great efforts!

Stupid short people. I'm sick of seeing short people. In my school (private, 350 kids) there is about 20 to 30 freshmen who are seriously around 4.5 feet tall! What happened!?! Are people getting shorter and shorter? I'm a junior and I'm about 6ft which I'd guess is a pretty normal height (or atleast it was) and then you see these little freak-shrimp-kids about 2/3 your height or even less! My friend sums it up pretty nicely: "You.....you just wanna kick 'em."

4.5 feet, not 4'6"? Where did you get that ruler marked in tenths of a foot instead of inches? Or were you trying to make yourself look more numerate, and if that's the case, why not write 1.37 m?

Yeah, it kind of surprised me too, considering that it was a TI-BASIC program. =-) That screenshot of your program I must say is an exquisite work, indeed. If only I could take screenshots as nicely... It's kind of funny that the screenshot isn't even of your program; maybe if they had a before *and* after picture of running your program it would work well.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Screenshot Staff, Part 2

The screenshot IS of my program, but the input is completely wrong (can't have spaces in lists) and the pie chart itself isn't displayed at all (wouldn't that be the most important part of the program?). I've got to upload my own screenshots more often; unfortunately, when I do, the bad ones don't get removed.

For an even worse screenshot, click the url above. Notice from the description that this program is, technically, not a game.

Well what I sort of meant was that it would be more effective to show the graph than some text, unless the text is output that your program displays and not your program being typed in. And lol, that currency conversation screenshot is hilarious.

I agree 100%. If the purpose of the program is to draw a graph, then it is logical to expect the screenshot to show the graph.

The only positive thing about this is that those bad screen shots are giving my programs more publicity than good screenshots could have.
