ticalc.org's Requests Exceed 2,000,000
Posted by Andy on 3 September 2000, 03:19 GMT
We are happy to announce that this past week we recorded two million (2*10^6) requests on our web statistics. This sets a new record for requests in a single week. We thank all our loyal users, and we hope we can continue serving the TI community for a long time to come.

TIcalc is fine for me right now. But i remember when i found my 89 an struggled to know what was HW or AMS. So i would like to know i site where i could direct people new to TIs so they could know everything to get started. TIcalc is nowhere able to do that, sorry to say.

I do a lot of calculator tech support over aolim/aim and spend anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes on average per person, depending on their level of technological aptitude. The quality and quantity of my responses vary greatly depending on how much homework I have left, what time it is, what mood I'm in, and even occasionally what mp3 is playing. My responses range from the rare "RTFM", directed towards someone with a REALLY stupid question blatantly explained in the manual when I'm tired or annoyed, to providing a walkthrough of how to get games from this site, including sending them to the calc. When I'm not in a really annoyed mood and the question is something like "Where can I find games for my TI-**?", I always recommend for the person to search at www.ticalc.org and www.calc.org . (Note to prevent flames: the only reason I recommend those two and only those two is those are the only two I have used extensively, and therefore the only two to which I can personally attest to the selection of games, particularly for a specific calculator.)
However, I do agree that it would be much simpler and easier to provide tech support if there was a hosted site or at least a section on it at one of the major TI fan sites. Then I could just say "goto: [3ld].[2ld].[tld]" or "goto: [3ld].[2ld].[tld]/[dir]/". Items in brackets are:
[3ld] == third level domain
[2ld] == second level domain
[tld] == top level domain (.org, .net, .com, etc)
[dir] == directory

thats great, but just one question...
does it count per hostname, or does it increment everytime you hit the "reload" button?
heh, doesn't really matter, 2 million's always 2 million =)

I guess the mass boredom of high school students after their first week hit the ticalc server with a wallop.

I've got a request for ya... How about not putting one program up and pushing 50 off of the front page? Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
