ticalc.org's Requests Exceed 2,000,000
Posted by Andy on 3 September 2000, 03:19 GMT

We are happy to announce that this past week we recorded two million (2*10^6) requests on our web statistics. This sets a new record for requests in a single week. We thank all our loyal users, and we hope we can continue serving the TI community for a long time to come.

2,000,000?? Good lord. 6 gigs a week? Some server. I wish I had a server. Does anybody have any suggestions for a good server service? Thanks.

ticalc.org is not actually a "server class" machine. It's just an old out-dated workstation....

Thanks for defining "million" for me. I wasn't sure whether it was 10^3 or 10^6.<g>

I think million is not a problem, but billion can be in different parts of world 10^9 or 10^12.

Wow, ticalc sure is raking in the hits.
(:
Look at their data transfer too, I mean, all their files are like, really quite small, and yet they manage to transfer nearly 6Gb a week. Ticalc is some 3|2337 w3b51t3!

Since this is a calculator site, why not do a calculation and say that the average rate of requests is 3.3 Hz?

That's pretty good, but why not calculate average bytes downloaded per user per day.

Eleven decimal places is:
a) about the best I can guarantee to remember at 4+ am, as I am often up that late posting things here on weekends.

and

b) the best my TI-89 can readily tell me. If I wanted to do the complex math required to obtain more accurate values for both, I would have.

So far this week, its at 4.7616851851852 hz for requests.

In the last 7 days, an average of 80136.505376508 bytes per second has been transferred.

Both statistics were computed using my hw2 ams2.05 TI-89.

I think the great number of visitors comes from school starting. New (and some old) students want to get all the great games so they can have something to do during school.

With some people, such as me, the number of hits per person actually dropped because of school starting. I've been known to regularly spend more than 16 hours on this site per day (now, I'm not constantly browsing this site because I usually run 3-5 browser windows at the same time, usually on different sites).

However, the majority of the visiting populace is newbies looking for progs and games for their new calcs. There is also a large number of repeat visitors looking to see what's developed since the schoolyear ended.
