h4X0r Announces Gooey 89 and GIDE
Posted by Nick on 29 December 1999, 01:59 GMT

Gooey 89 Thumbnailh4X0r, in a newly revamped home page, has announced the pending release of Gooey 89 and GIDE. I'll let quotes from the page speak for themselves:

"I have created the first hacked freeware Flash Application, Gooey 89, as well as GIDE, also known as Gooey Integrated Development Envirnoment.
"The two programs work together to make a lethal programming nightmare for TI's SDK, which costs $300 USD! My two programs make TI-89 assembly programming easy! It offers everything [that] DoorsOS offers without the mess of libraries as all the usefull routines are built in! I have included all the possible documentation humanly possible, to allow a quick uptime for new and seasoned programmers. Not only that but if you ever have questions, I have setup a message board to ask questions and get answers! No longer will you have [to] plead with TI's incompetence."

A screenshot is available to the right; just click on the thumbnail. Versions of Gooey 89 and GIDE should (hopefully) be released soon.

Update (Nick): h4X0r has released a second screenshot of GIDE.

Update (Nick): h4X0r has updated his page again. Those of you who bothered to read this news item for this long, get ready for a treat. h4X0r has added animated screenshots to his Gooey 89 page. Enjoy! h4X0r says Gooey 89 and GIDE will be released shortly after Y2K. He's working on it as fast as he can, so sit tight. More to come from us soon.

I don't think I was very clear on my website, gooey 89 is a FLASH APPLICATION! It has been written to be combatible with DoorsOS, but most games, to take advantage of GIDE, will have to be re-written :(

As far as a TI-92+ version, nope! Unless you find someone that can hack a 9xk file for me.

Also the program will be fully open source and as is GIDE. The ability to compile 89k files is limited to freeware, but not a silly 8k limit like TI's free SDK.

This was mainly mad because I got ticked off at TI for trying to charge "us" money for something that should be free. Let freedom ring!

By the way, my name is pronounced H-A-X-O-R! remember it TI!

How was the flash application (Gooey) made?
Did you use ASM?
I'm curious to find out how you created the base application for this.

I used ASM and a beta GIDE to compile it. It is very simialr to writing a standard DoorsOS ASM program, except for certain features that gooey has added, and there is no tios::whatever routines. Also you can NOT use TI's software to send it to your TI-89, you must use GIDE, as TI's just says some error, or skips the file :(

I thought that GIDE compiled legally signed TI flash applications... if they are... then shouldnt the Graphlink software send them?

Graphlink has problems.

The graphlink doesn't always work for files that you create with another program. I know that some level editors for the 86 produced files that didn't work with graphlink but worked with calc-explorer.

But I thought that h4x0r could 'legally sign' these apps... which involves encrypting the checksum (without the proper one... the program wont run) with the 512 bit key. So if this program doesnt have the right checksum then it wont even run on the real calc

>I don't think I was very clear on my website, gooey 89 is a FLASH APPLICATION! It has been written to be combatible with DoorsOS, but most games, to take advantage of GIDE, will have to be re-written :(

Why? What does this do that doorsos cant do... and arent you going to get rid of libraries?? so how can you run doorsos programs?

>As far as a TI-92+ version, nope! Unless you find someone that can hack a 9xk file for me.

How did you hack a 89k file? When TI designed these two calculators they intended them to be compatible. So the same way you hacked a 89k file (if you did) should work for the 9xk file...

>Also the program will be fully open source and as is GIDE. The ability to compile 89k files is limited to freeware, but not a silly 8k limit like TI's free SDK.

89k files aren't the ones that are limited... only regular asm programs are limited, not Flash applications... Apps MUST take up at least one page of the Flash ROM... which is 16k

>This was mainly mad because I got ticked off at TI for trying to charge "us" money for something that should be free. Let freedom ring!

TI charges _us_ money because people can potentially (if they know what they're doing) make alot of money off a really good flash app.

>By the way, my name is pronounced H-A-X-O-R! remember it TI!

Hmm.... will they remember?

For the billionth time... ASM programs in ram have the limit so that you can't copy a flash app... Flashapp DON'T have the 8k limit rather if it had a limit (Which they will on the free undoubtly). THe limit would be 16k because the flash apps are made to be intervals of 16k so that they fill up whole flash rom pages!

will this allow us newbies to program in c?

and if not, will that be implemented?

C sucks for programming a TI-89, right now it is hardcore ASM only! Maybe if Turbosoft's SnoBoard 2000 changes mind, then I might implement C as well!

Man, I can't spell and I have bad grammar! The top post should read:
"C sucks for programming a TI-89. Right now it is hardcore ASM only! Maybe if Turbosoft's SnoBoard 2000 changes my mind, then I might implement C as well!"

Stupid keyboard...

Hey, h4x0r, I read a post from you somewhere saying you will convert all of ticalc's ASM archives to Gooey format, will this include Street Fighter 2? I love that game, but I do NOT love the fact that it crashes every 5 seconds! Hopefully you can do something about that :-). Great work, hopefully with GIDE and Gooey I'll be able to learn 89 ASM! Or, if not, at least we'll have stable ASM programs. Hopefully I can have Gooey on my calc before I go back to school on the 4th!

Yeah people like it.But I hate it cause it always crashed and it did not have a story mode or a tower mode or anything so I began to write Saiyans.A game much like it but with those modes and the saiyans from the Dragon Ball (z)(gt) series. Then after I got the engine wrote my computer crashed.I began re-writing it and decided to wait till the rom version we have now came out.Now I am going to postpone finishing it until you release Gooey and GIDE.Anyways did you know the name Gooey is already used by a chat program gooey and I think it is copyrited.I hope Gooey and GIDE are released soon so I can finish my product and start on an rpg I have been thinking about writeing called BitterSweet.

Yeah, I know some lame company made a PC program called "gooey" that allows you to chat with other people on the same page.

But also notice that my program is called gooey 89, see it's not the same!

Anyways, I'm a DBZ nut! I hope my program helps you out!

Wow that was fast.Yeah I see but if they come across it they may threaten legal action and you would have to change it.I just wanted to make sure you knew.Anyways your program will help out a lot if it does everything you say.

Personally, I'd be much more worried about TI suing him for "hacking" FLASH technology and completely undermining their corporate strategy.
Of course if that happens, everyone will get mad a'la the DeCSS trial that's currently going on.

Who is TI going to sue? h4x0r is doing this over the internet. Do they even have h4x0r's first and last name? No!! Since they don't.......how are they going to get it? That's like TI tracing someone and fineing them for sending out their 89 ROM. I just don't think TI is really going to do anything about this.

Ever read TI's terms of use??

"Restrictions: You may not reverse-assemble or reverse-compile the software program portion of the Licensed Materials that are provided in object code format."

h4x0r would have had to do this to 'hack' the 'legally signed' flash app he's 'making'
