New Flash Application for the TI-89
Posted by Eric on 15 December 1999, 00:58 GMT

Texas Instruments has released a new Flash application for the TI-89. The new software, entitled "Statistics with List Editor," includes inferential statistics, a list editor, and other advanced statistics features. The application is free, and more information can be found at http://www.ti.com/calc/flash/89.htm.

can I use this app. without downgrading from ams v. 1.00 to version 2.03? What does the app do, anyway?

Downgrading?? hehe.... I don't know about everyone else but I'm happy with AMS 2.03... even if I can't use a lot of ASM games and all my archive mem. I think that the Collapsible Folders and the User-Defined catalog are good enough for me. I'll just wait 'till the SDK comes out and make my own progs for the 89.

Anyway, to answer your question (kinda): The app is a list editor with some statistics functions just like the one on the 83 and 83+.

Nope... sorry to say, you'll have to install AMS 2.03 before you can use the statistics application. It's a nice app, though.

The statistics application is actually rather impressive and I'd like to state a few reasons why I disagree with what you said.

1) This is the first free Flash application released for the 89 and for a lot of people. including myself. this will be the first time to see a Flash application.

2) A statistics application will be of much use in AP statistics, a very common class for people to take if they don't want to take calculus.

3) I'm glad it's free. I think the geometry application should be free too, but maybe that's just me. I paid for my 89. I shouldn't have to pay for software that should be standard on the calculator, in my opinion.

4) For 89s that don't have hardware version 2, a lot of that extra Flash ROM is useless for anything but Flash applications.

A few days ago, I was blasting TI for AMS 2.03 on a different comment board, however, I'll give them credit for it when they do something right. Releasing the statistics application is a step in the right direction.

I agree. I think a statistics editor is great. Stats is a required course at many colleges and I'm sure that none of you want to shell out the money for an 83. Now I have a use for my 89 other than games. And no, symbolic calculus isn't that important when I already know calculus and can use an intergral table.

Have you even looked at the app yet? If you have an 83(+) or seen the statistical functions included on the calculator, this app takes that and virtually doubles it in functionality. The list editor is also integrated with the statistical functions. Not to mention the fact that it's a FLASHapp, which means functionality outside of the app. You can use the lists you make in the Statistics app with any other program or function you make, or use them in the built-in stats menu. Either way, this app is incredible.

Has anyone rewritten the software for the old homemade parallel link to support rom updates and flash software? I have WinTrans8x 4.0 and it gives me an "unrecognized file type" error when i try to send an .83u file to the calculator. Does anyone know of software to send the new rom and this flash app over a homemade parrallel link?

goto http://lesti92.ctw.cc/beta.html and download ParallelCableFlashSender. It worked for my TI-89, but i don't know if it works for ti-83plus.

Same here. Why can I never get what I want? They must have taken it down or something. Maybe it was a "Free for a limited time" deal, and now they are going to start selling it to us (j/k).
Seriously though, I want the software. Why ain't it there?

decisions decisions. should i ugprade from my ams 1.00 to ams 2.03 at the sacrifice of many of games, just for the statistics editor? i want to hear other peoples' opinion on this new statistics feature. just to let you know, i'm taking ap calculus right now (calculus ab), do i need the statistics feature? thanks in advance =)

No.. You don't.. I went through high school AP calc, three semester's of college calc, differential equations, and linear algebra without -needing- a calc. I had a ti-85, and now a ti-89... both weren't critical. and the statistics app is definately not necessary for calculus....

AB trash!!! :) just kidding, it's a joke at my school. Our BC class called the AB classes that all the time. Anyway, I thought the 89 was very, very useful in the class and AP test (I know you didn't ask that). I'm in statistics now and thinking I should upgrade so I can use the flash app...

It's even a better idea now that a lot of games now work for AMS 2.0x. Lemme see... Phoenix, Tetris, Falldown..., must I continue? BTW, I love the Statistics app. Read my post above.

also, sonic version 3 is out. It works with the new ams, but I forget where to download it. Got to the unoficial news-board at dim-ti, it will tell you where to get it.

I thought everything except 2.0x because the author said he would get it to work with 2.0x when TI gave more info.
