That is true, graphics are what makes a great game rise above the rest, but ask yourself this:

Would you rather play a game that is fun, with hardly any graphics, or one with Dreamcast graphics with absolutely no fun involved?

I mean you will enjoy the next version of Solar ;)
What do you think of Tyrian graphics with poor gameplay and 3 frames/sec ?

Don't listen to them. Your game is really great (if a littles repetative)

I would rather play a fun game with bad graphics, definatly. The purpose of playing games is to have fun, to enjoy yourself, not to look at good graphics and not do much (unless you like doing that more than say.. playing tetris) Even a slow game with OK graphics (BASIC game) can be fun, like Tanks - that is one of my favorite games, especially if you are in math class and want to play a game without getting caught.

|[I just found out that you can get AMS 2.01 for the TI-89 at http://h4X0r.cjb.net This is not an official release though]|

I agree, playing a game with bad graphics does not mean its bad. Just look at Pheonix for the 89/92/92+. The graphics could have been outrageously better, but the game itself is one of the best for any calculator out there.

yeah, good graphics helps a game, but to be a great game it needs that special something that makes it addictive...galaxian and pheonix are great games because they can provide countless hours of fun gameplay--solar gets boring after you stop drooling over the graphics and start playing the game itself

btw it's so cool to finally see the new rom 2.01- the only problem is doorsos doesn't work, so no games...does anyone know any other games that don't require a shell besides creversi?

Something better should have won.. (no offense to the makers of SolarStrike). AS92 and Tezxas are much better programs than SolarStriker.

Programs are not very fun.
Solar Striker is a very cool game, and has GREAT graphics. The POTM stuff is based on enjoyment, not on value or anything.
If a program beat a game, I would be surprised.

Actually, POTM doesn't have any definition. Enjoyment might be your definition, but other people might consider usefulness or some other thing when they vote. This is why POTM should probably be defined more clearly.

How do you even compare Tezxas to Solar Striker? No offense to the makers of Tezxas, but it's garbage. I have not found one game for the emulator that make it worth having. Most of the games are illegible and most of the time, I can't tell the difference between my guy and a random block.

Continue searching! Between 8000 Spectrum games you will surely find at least 500 that look great!

And version that I currently write will be gray scale and use TI92+ screen.

When I tried sound with my calculator (89) I found that it only worked if it was most of the way plugged in, and not clicked in all the way. If it clicked all the way, it temporarily froze the calc (not crashed).

I just used one of those Radio Shack adapters and regular headphones - I thought that's all you had to do. The calculator didn't like having that thing plugged in at all. Anyone else have this problem (I have yet to try it on my new 89, one I own - my old one was a school rented model, which was new when I got it, so rented doesn't mean anything negative.)

BTW, the programs I used were some song files like "Entertainer" and also the "Light" program, and the sound did work, just the plug had to be half way plugged in.

I just wanted to ask it. I have the same problem, at least with stereo headphones. Did anybody try with mono?

Make sure you guys aren't plugging the headphone adaptor in at the calc's home screen, or anytime you're using the TI OS for that matter. Plug the adaptor in while running an asm shell, then start the game. If you are doing this and it still doesn't work, your problem is beyond me (I'm a videophile rather than audiophile :-)).

I have done some experimentation with sound, and I have found that you can start the ASM program and then plug in the headphones, and that works fine too.
