Ben Mickle Releases Zip86
Posted by Nick on 10 November 1999, 16:45 GMT
Ben Mickle released a wonderful utility for the 86 recently called Zip86. It's used for compressing both assembly and basic programs on the calculator so you can fit more on. After they're compressed, you can run them like you would run any normal program. For those of you who don't understand the value of this, the 86's large amount of memory is effectively made much, much larger with the use of this program :).

It's interesting that the use of less addictive drugs by individuals who possess the mental capacity and maturity to subject themselves to weak drugs (such as lsd and beer) results in a happy person rather than the frugal disgusting wrech that you would normally associate with drug use. One could even expostulate that a short term use of lsd has more benefits than set-backs. I think that the currency for the dissemination of wisdom and information is often drug use and drug users, as seen in Kerouac, Ginsberg Burroughs, Jim Morrison and even Aldous Huxley (an advocate of lsd). That's my arbitrary thought of the moment, now i must get myself another "cold one" from the fridge.

LSD is not a weak drug. Although it is not an addictive drug, it can cause anything from a lifetime of occasional mental incongruity to brain death. It could happen anywhere from the first time you use it, to 30 years later. If you want to stay happy I suggest you stick with natural substances, such as shrooms, peyote, and of course that smelly green shit. Although one could argue that inhalation of any smoke is harmful, THC is perfectly safe. In fact it is the safest therapeutically active drug known to man.
In a related note, current projections put the end of the current hemp prohibition at 5-7 years. That will be followed by the immediate release of Marlboro Blues, the end of national dept, the return of the phrase "make love, not war," and finally world peace.

Why is this so "newswhorty?" The TI-89/92+ have had this function with DoorsOS for a long time now. You know ziplib by Marc TEYSSIER.

It's a very good program, but not truly worth it.
It only saved me 1k of space (including the program size), which is not worth the compression and decompression time. With some enhancements (like compressing ability for strings, I have many 85 progies), it would be excellent.

could it be possible to make it compress then send it to another calc which can decompress it using the same decompressor, just ported to that calc, making a way of filesharing with calcs? is there such a program already out that allows you to share files between calcs that usually dont?
