Comment Board Anarchy Trial Survey
Posted by Nick on 8 November 1999, 01:48 GMT

For those of you who don't have your survey box turned on or those of you who haven't noticed yet :), the anarchy trial survey has been posted. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to voice their opinions on this issue; even people who don't use the comment board often or at all. This survey will be open for one week, and the results will be posted after the survey is closed. We hope that this survey can help us form a logical and intelligent opinion on this issue, and we hope that you folks out there will understand our position.

Finally, the anarchy trial is now over, but we'll only delete posts which contain excessively inappropriate or crude language until we make our final decision. Thanks to everyone who participated. :)

I think I'll borrow this 'First Comment' (2 actually) and use it for a real post:

I think it is stupid that TICALC is hiding the results. So I posted a comment in which anyone could reply with their vote. (I voted for 1)

There are ti-channels on IRC, on EFNet, which is kind of like a chat room.

Does anyone know of an actual chat room? My college's firewall blocks IRC and ICQ. It really sucks.

Your college has a firewall? Mine doesn't care what we do. At UT - Knoxville, I've even heard of people setting up web servers off of their college connections.

Yeah, that's what I do, run a server off of my computer. People tell me they can dowload at 350k/s sometimes since I have an ethernet connection. Plus, I get to make some extra cash. I just tell people to sign up to get paid to surf the web while they are downloading files off of the server, and I watch the cash roll in. :)

My webpage has more info if you want to earn cash to surf the web.

I thought that you weren't allowed to put a link to the alladvantage site on a messageboard. (On my webpage there is a link, but not from this board)

My college (Northwest Missouri State University) set up a firewall because of heavy scanning from Europe (not sure what that's about?). They also had a little problem with students using the campus system to target other college networks. There was even a case in which a student hacked into a nearby college (Missouri Western State College) and took down there network for several days.

I’m using a T3 and it’s pretty fast (downloads at about 150Kb/s average). One good thing is that every dorm room is supplied with a computer by the college.

I did link to AllAdvantage. Where does it say you can't? I don't want my posting ability here removed because of that. I just figured people would ask about it so I didn't want to waste time with a follow up.

I realize ignorance is no excuse but I only see 4 basic rules for this board: "Try to be constructive and relevant; no flames, and no posts relating to web site competition. Do not use HTML tags in comment text. Use clean language: do not swear. Please hit the Post button once and be patient! It may take a moment to process."

Funny, the link goes to another site, unless it's a redirection. It doesn't explicitly state "www.alladvantage.com/home.asp?refid=" or any of that stuff. I think what the Prof's talking about in regard to illegality of posting a link on message boards may come from the agreement that you agreed to when you signed up for AA. It also doesn't allow spamming. Maybe one day you will see your ref number on that discontinued service page for spamming or posting on message boards, who knows? Anyway, the site seems to be down or something, it keeps telling me the server is too busy. I can't check how much money I made today. :)

The link is a redirection to my referral ID. It's easier to remember than all that other garbage. What I did wasn't spamming. I realize that there is such a thing as message board spam. My topic was not spam since is was relevant to the previous topic. If I had just said Get Paid to Surf the Web! and then a link to the site. That's spam. The site was down for a while yesterday. I just checked my stats, it works fine for me. By the way can anyone beat 68 referrals?

Whoa, you are /seriously/ missing the point. AllAdvantage doesn't let you refer people over a message board or mailing list. Nothing to do with ticalc.org (however, that is the kind of post I would delete).

I like AllAdvantage. I'm running very high-res, so the ads don't bother me, and I get paid very, very slowly. Maybe someday I'll start referring people. ;)

No, you are wrong. In fact, AllAdvantage encourages posting on message boards and sending out mailing lists! It's all on their site, you just have to read my friend.

You are a complete moron! I took this directly off of www.alladvantage.com:

Utilize Message Boards...
Online Message Boards are an easy way to get your referrer link out to many interested parties. It is important that the messages left fall under the appropriate topic of discussion. For example, you would not start a message thread titled "Get Paid to Surf the Web" under a dog-grooming forum. Your message would, however, be appropriate for forums such as "Raising Money Online" and "Innovative Money Making Techniques." Use the boards wisely and everyone benefits!

Where exactly on the alladvantage.com site does it say that? I don't remember reading it when I signed up (last month), and just now I tried to find it but I couldn't.

Re: Where?

It says it in the AllAdvantage Plus section. You might not be able to view it because I think you have to have over 20 referrals to be an AllAdvantage Plus member. I would never lie about this, I'm not that pathetic.

Re: Re: Where?

Then that's why I thought otherwise: I only have 6 referrals, and yes, you do need 20 or more referrals to be an AllAdvantage Plus member.

It does now. I checked it on somebody else's computer after clearing their long-term cache. GO.com was having upgrades for their homepages server, and my handle was in the first batch of upgrades. It should run fine now.

I don't go to UTK. I go to UT- Chattanooga. I have friends at UTK who have set up their own servers, though. Here at UTC, something happens to the I.P. address (so I've heard), so a studet-run server isn't possible

tom me

The IRC ports are probably being blocked, I had that problem at work. To get around that get a shell and bounce off it, or you can be cheap and just use a wingate like I did. They work on the telnet port, which I doubt your college blocks.
