Comment Board Anarchy Trial Survey
Posted by Nick on 8 November 1999, 01:48 GMT
For those of you who don't have your survey box turned on or those of you who haven't noticed yet :), the anarchy trial survey has been posted. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to voice their opinions on this issue; even people who don't use the comment board often or at all. This survey will be open for one week, and the results will be posted after the survey is closed. We hope that this survey can help us form a logical and intelligent opinion on this issue, and we hope that you folks out there will understand our position. Finally, the anarchy trial is now over, but we'll only delete posts which contain excessively inappropriate or crude language until we make our final decision. Thanks to everyone who participated. :)

You know what? I can almost personally guarantee you that this post will be deleted. This post was originally designed to be RREEEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYYY long one, but I don't feel like typing out all of that stuff. TICALC-Please don't ban me from the message boards. I really like them. And I have only published maybe one or two messages here at ticalc.org, so I hope that you won't do anything to me, or my account. I know that some people abuse this service, but I don't want to do that, and I hope that I'm not doing it right now. Well, to not be completely off-topic, I guess I'll talk about this Newsboard Anarchy Trial thing. I don't really know how to decide on it. Well, I guess I can see why it would be a problem in the first place, but I would have to say that we should leave all posts on this board. That's not to say that we shouldn't delete some post that supports communism, or a link to porn, but I think we should allow most things to stay on. After all, what is the use of a board if they can't express their opinions about something, especially if their opinion is different from everyone else's. You know what? This text is really small. Well, sure, it doesn't look small now that you are reading it, but while I am typing it, it is incredible small. I don't know how many people have ever posted on this board before, but to the people that never have, the text is amazingly small. Oh! You know what? Guess what's on right now? Well, it's Star Trek: Voyager! Well, now, I know that some of you people don't like Voyager, and think that it is for nerds, but I don't think so. You know what? I can almost GUARANTEE you that this post will be deleted. You know, I really don't want this post to be deleted. In a sense, you'll be deleting me. You will be deleting my very essence. Now, that may seem hard to believe, but I don't think so. As you are reading this, so is some ticalc.org member, and they are probably debating right now in their head if they should let this post go on in its legacy. I know that no one will care about me, or this post, and maybe not even want to respond to it, but I just want you to know that I have posted about this topic. I have not asked for cheat codes, or said "517th Comment" or anything, so I believe that this post should continue on. Now, I know that some people will disagree, but I don't think so. As for Voyager, I was just watching it now. Something is happening to the ship. Actually, I'm not watching it technically right now, because I am posting this! But, seriously, I think that this post should stay on. Of course, now, I could talk about this topic some more. Heck, why not? Well, I don't personally have a problem with the "1st Comment" stuff, but I don't think a post should say just that. If someone were going to write a really serious post, I would think that it would be okay to post something like that, but, of course, it does have its downsides. You know what I was just thinking? What if this post is just too long? I mean, I've seen some long posts, but what if there is some kind of message that says, "This post is too long. Its limits have been exceeded" or something like that. Well, I don't really feel like posting anymore, so I think that I will stop this now, and endangering my risk of making this post too long, so I will go watch Voyager. I will see you...or not. Wait, why would I see you? Well, it's not impossible...Wait. I think that I'm just going to stop here. Goodbye to everyone that read this post, and you should be proud of yourself if you did read this entire post. If you just skipped down to here, screw you. Read someone's posts. They spent a lot of time on them. :) Goodbye! :)

12 sounds about right. I'd say 47% So you think supporting communism is not a fair expression of opinion? This is why I don't like America. The thing I find most disgusting about communism is that it silences and suppresses opposition and free thought, yet at school I hear the slur "commie" used against people who don't embrace traditional capitalist, consumerist and clique-esque values. So if believing in a different form of government is not free expression, what the hell is your point? Thank you, Senator McCarthy.
I've been away for about a week or two so I don't know what this survey business is about, although I am familiar with the anarchy "problem" (i.e. when we are trying to have a meaningful chat and Brian comes in and puts up 20+ posts on how ticalc removes posts they don't agree with) Here's the thing: I never really have seen the staff remove anything less than severely offensive (speaking purely in terms of wasting time and space, such as pure flame posts) When a flamer comes on and writes something and gets thoughtful rebuttals, they have tended to leave the thread on. When we get get a 60-message thread of nothing but pure flame/counter-flame, however, this just wastes everybody's time and ought to be removed. I won't tell ticalc how things should be done, but I really appreciate thier selection of which posts/threads are worthy of deletion and which aren't and I really can't complain about the quality of my browsing experience in the boards or maintain that I could do a better job. Somehow I doubt the rest of us could either. If they start doing a bad job, I will simply go to other sites and participate more in other venues. Nothing is stopping those of us who think they are already doing a bad job from doing the same. Just remember that with anarchy it will take about an hour to load a board that really doesn't say much besides "You suck Go To Hell I think that's great Me too 1st in" over and over

The slashdot.org system is very good, might be good to learn from them. Keeps all the posts, but rate each comment by a rating system. The default will mask the useless comments from sight.
