CalcPilot Announced by Tyrel Haveman
Posted by Nick on 7 November 1999, 19:24 GMT
Tyrel Haveman of Haveman Computer & Internet approached my e-mail box with a wonderful screenshot of a program that will interface with a TI to give it access to the internet. It looks like it's approaching completion, so that's quite encouraging. The program's name will be called CalcPilot. According to the author, "My company has released the first screenshots of my Windows application that will give TI-89's access to the Internet (someone can write something like Windows Sockets library for TI that will work with the application, then others can make browsers etc for TI) and does file management thru the computer, etc." This seems like something that would be pretty neat to attempt. Click on the rather sketchy thumbnail to the right to see the full screenshot. :)

Also, if there is anyone who is good with assembly and is interested in writing the socket program for the TI that will interface with CalcPilot, please let me know!

Ok, first of all the CalcPilot has a few cool things about it but mostly seems pointless.
Secondly, and this is the important part, I'd like to ask a favor of you. Right now I'm working on a pretty good basic GUI. I'm almost finished but I'd like for it to have everything you would want in a GUI. So my point is that I'd like for you to e-mail me any cool features or clever ideas that I could use to perfect my GUI. Thanks.

This program could be improved to be more useful, as it is not very useful now. The program will also be more useful when it supports other calcs.

Is there going to be another fake news anytime soon? There hasn't been one for at least a month.

Will be most useful for sending e-mails direct from calc, i think.
Hook it up in the morning transfer e-mails to calc off to school , read and reply mail during boring lessons history, religon etc find a schoolcomputer during lunch, send previous written e-mails recieve new mails more lessons hook up when youare home. IF there will be wireless modems then MUD:s are the killer app.

I just thought of a cool addition to my application here! Using the calculator hooked to your computer, you may be able to access a folder on your hard drive, as if the calculator had it's own hard drive, and then when you want to run a program (load any variable), it would be downloaded to your calculator's memory, then erased from memory when it is no longer in use. Maybe we could create library that programs to utilize this feature will use. Ideas? Suggestions?
