TI Releases TI-84+ OS version 2.55MP
Posted by Astrid on 12 January 2011, 00:19 GMT

TI recently published a new version of the TI-84+ operating system, numbered 2.55MP. The previous version was 2.53MP, with version 2.54MP for the Nspire emulated TI-84+. (I haven't heard of a 2.56MP, but it will probably be included in the next Nspire update, as even-numbered minor releases 2.54MP and following are targeted at the Nspire 84+ emulator.)

According to a posting on the tinspire mailing list, the new software has improved statistics and added new options to Press-To-Test. It was reported on IRC that the new OS uses another Flash page which was unused on previous releases. This will certainly cause incompatibility problems with some older programs that expect to be able to use that page. No word yet on which programs those might be.

You can download the new software for your calculator at TI's website.

One program that might apparently not work anymore is TI-Boy SE. Besides that I don't know if any other program might fail. I heard the OS was also larger, but on the calc the user archive is still the same.

Yes, as I understand it the page was left unused by TI, presumably to accomodate exactly this sort of change.

The TI Boy doesn't work anymore? That's really bad, do you guys think they did it on purpose?

I don't think so. TI-Boy had always failed on newer machines because they have another chip/usage of memory (?). So maybe this new OS just doesn't cover the old way of working anymore. Just an assumption.

Actually, this applies only to the in-development version. No worries, I will certainly make changes accordingly.

Mathprint and srolling throw the Entries is super and even MirageOS runs. But it is really slower and Omnicalc's entry list causes a nice crash.

The StatWizards functionality could be easily duplicated on an older OS with a simple TI-Basic program, so there is really no point in updating.

No, that flashing ░ cursor would take a bit more than a simple BASIC program to do well, so you should obviously switch to 2.55 and get rid of an entire flash page.

What about the bug in 2.53MP that BrandonW fixed? Is that bug still in 2.55MP?

And what about compatibility with TIEmu8X, Omnicalc, xLIB, CelticIII and so on?

If you're using Doors CS, the xLib/Celtic III/Omnicalc issues are irrelevant, because Doors CS supports all of xLib and Celtic III and some of Omnicalc's libraries, and works around the specific 2.53MP bug to which you refer without an OS patch.

2.55MP has Stats Wizard, which appears in the catalogue. I don't know what it does, but I have implimented it into a program which resets my calc to the default I want, which includes keeping Stats Wizard on. If anyone could tell me what it is, please do so.

I have found that the stat wizard function is simply a "easier" way to do regression lines like "Linreg(ax+b)" specifically. It really doesn't seem to be that much of a tedious task, therefore I am unsure why Ti felt it necessary to put it in the calculator.

Good News everyone, I went to the trusty wayback machine and found Nspire os 1.3. (1.3 being on the newest page that I could get to) as soon as they put up newer pages, we can get to newer OS'es. I got 1.3 by finding the newest page they had and then navigating to the page where you would download the os. the wayback archive actually shows you the code in the os so you need to save it as a .tno. after that, you have 1.3. I'm sure this isn't a groundbreaking event, but I found it interesting I could get 1.3 off the wayback machine. PS to get 1.3, right-click on the link above this and below my name, save target as, .tno and done.

Nice find. I have links to OS 1.7, 2.0.1 and 2.1 on a forum topic on my site, which are still hosted on TI server, but nothing for OS 1.1 and others. I remember many people joined to beg copies of 1.1 and we couldn't distribute them ourselves.

I know that the website linked to this post has 1.1, and getting it actually works, but I haven't gotten anything else I have requested. It only works if it shows you the SENT page and you can click continue, If you get a blank screen, nothing was sent to your email.

While I am here, has anyone else noticed that Nover 1.1 now works for Ndless 2.0? And OS 1.1 - 2.1? Maybe my computer is messing with me but I have yet to find Ndless 2.0... Maybe I am not looking in the right places...

Ndless 2.0 is in the beta stage right now. There is no official release yet.

Are you sure?

Only managed to get the 1.4 CAS OS.
And if the site is right, there are no other versions of this file for now.
