TI Releases TI-84+ OS version 2.55MP
Posted by Astrid on 12 January 2011, 00:19 GMT
TI recently published a new version of the TI-84+ operating system, numbered 2.55MP. The previous version was 2.53MP, with version 2.54MP for the Nspire emulated TI-84+. (I haven't heard of a 2.56MP, but it will probably be included in the next Nspire update, as even-numbered minor releases 2.54MP and following are targeted at the Nspire 84+ emulator.)
According to a posting on the tinspire mailing list, the new software has improved statistics and added new options to Press-To-Test. It was reported on IRC that the new OS uses another Flash page which was unused on previous releases. This will certainly cause incompatibility problems with some older programs that expect to be able to use that page. No word yet on which programs those might be.
You can download the new software for your calculator at TI's website.

Looks like I'm still staying with 2.43, AFAIK it has the same bugginess as 2.53. The only reason I would use it would be for the mathprint, but I have a more than adequate substitute for that.

I really like the templates for fractions and matrices (using the [F1]-[F5] keys) and the nicer output for them; and the scrollable entries! And the Catalog-help (you need an app for that) is EXCELLENT for people learning the functionality.
However, I noticed some graphical glitches that occur when a BASIC program outputs/inputs certain things (there are horizontal white lines across the screen), and I found that very disappointing that they would release it with such an obvious bug!!!
One thing I'm DYING to know though: I found these "OpenLib" and "ExecLib" instructions in the catalog -- WHAT ARE THEY!?!?!? Also, I wish that catalog help applied to the PROGRAM menu too, because that is likely to be used as much as anything else!
