TI-Nspire Updates
Posted by Michael on 21 January 2008, 02:37 GMT
TI has made some important updates to the TI-Nspire series. Samuel Stearley reports that a new version of the operating system (1.3) has been released for both the Nspire and Nspire CAS . This version contains significant improvements such as a program editor and accordingly the first real programming capabilities yet. The new programming editor features syntax checking of lines as they're written, and many other things. There are also other additions to the operating system involving documents and library functions. All new features can be found in the updated guidebooks for the Nspire and Nspire CAS, available on TI's website.

The Nspire's screen looks pretty sexy, and I like idea of the dedicated letter keys. However, it seems to lack units support. For that reason, I'll stick to my trusty 89. (Maybe, someday, I'll get a Voyage 200.)

I can't wait until the programming allows for access to a graphics screen pixel-by-pixel, so we can render things like fractals and 3d surfaces. :) That was my first thought when I found out how much faster the processor is from previous models. It could also use actual input other than just function parameters ... maybe even dialog boxes.

TI-Nspire v2.0 has come out. This is a major update with many new features and a much friendlier interface. Plus, it is now possible to use the calc without batteries when connected to a PC via USB.
