TI-85 Emulator for the DS
Posted by Michael on 21 October 2006, 04:07 GMT

Last year we reported on a TI-85 emulator for the Nintendo DS. David Rorex has now released a new version, which is completely rewritten and superior to its predecessor. You can find it at his blog. A "flashcart" is required.

Ok, so Ticalc.org is my homepage, and usually I load up mozilla and immediatly go to the address bar because THERE IS NEVER ANY NEWS! But then I saw the headline and immediatly stopped. I thought:
SAY WAH??? U can emulate a DS on an 85???? WTH????
and then i read it again and thought oh wow. aren't i stupid. I don't even think there is a finished DS Emulator for a computer yet....

I don't think I will use this on my DS because I have to buy stuff, but it's still neat!

ok, here's what I've got:
MirageOS 1.2
FALLDOWN (Mirage name: "FallDown 2p exp.") by Nick Monu

Steps:
1. Load up Mirage OS
2. connect the calcs with SERIAL LINK (the headphone plug looking one)
3. Launch FallDown on both calcs
4. press [2nd] to start on both calcs
5. press [MODE] to get 2-player mode
6. press [MODE] on the second/guest calc
7. press [2nd] on the first/host calc
8. the game will display on the first/host calc and the second/guest calc will say "active" on the display but the controls will work.

Hope this helps!

You probably have to use the 2.5mm linkport instead of the mini-USB port. They are two different things in assembly, and since the 84+ probably wasn't around when this was written, the USB port probably isn't supported.

I'm not sure about that part but I know I've made it work b/t my 83+SE and 84+SE over ti's longest serial link cord.

I have no way to test usb, only one calc that supports it.

Please excuse the off topicness but www.calc.org is now a site devoted to super soakers.
They haven't been deserving of that front page link from ticalc.org for years.
Would it hurt to delete it.

It should be deleted. And it's first on the list yet. We need more managers.

Please Nuke Me. Press the Big Red Button. Send me to the Choir Eternal.
Mark Fairpo  Account Info

I've Emailed accounts_ticalc.org a few times with no seeming reply or movement. I therefore now ask that my Author Profile and User Account for "FAIRPO" be purged from ticalc.org

The Email address in my Author Profile (7968_breathemail.net) is not the same as my User Account (fairpo_breathemail.net). I am receiving the same Spam to two Email addresses, which can only be due to Spambots spidering ticalc.org

My Author Profile should be the same Email as my User Account, the only self-fix ticalc.org offer is to (re)attach an Author Profile to a User Account by providing the "Email of [an] author profile". However, this does not cover my anomally; my Author Profile is locked to a redundant 7968_breathemail.net and its files already show against my User Account that uses fairpo_breathemail.net

"Manage Author Information" incorrectly informs me that the "Email displayed on author record: 7968_breathemail.net [is] set to same as user account" whereas my User Account has fairpo_breathemail.net

I am tired of Emailing accounts_ticalc.org to plead whether the Email for my Author Profile could please be aligned with fairpo_breathemail.net, so I now ask to be purged from ticalc.org, with my hope of rejoining when Email addresses become hidden. I recommend Spambot counter-measures in your /robots.txt in the interim.

Thank-you, Mark

If you mean that the email address shown in your author profile is different from your account email address, then I have the same problem. A few years ago I changed my account email address, but the author profile email address didn't change.

I tried the "Attach author profile" button in the Manage Author Information page, but it says "Could not locate author record", even though I have put my newer email address in the email field in file uploads.

I don't think a robots.txt would prevent spambots from harvesting email addresses from the site because spambots can just ignore it and do what they do anyway. Instead, the webserver could just deny requests from spambots based on their user-agent string. Of course, a spambot could use a user-agent string that's the same as a real Web browser to snag pages.

I think the best way to stop email harvesting is to hide email addresses from them but make them readable to humans (eg, use images of the address, or split up the text in the HTML and make it appear as a whole when it's rendered).

I'm going to email "accounts at ticalc dot org" to ask them about this problem too.

Yeah, I've also had the problem of not having my email address on my uploaded files updated to match my new account email address. I had to email ticalc.org once in the past to have them fix it. Now, I just write in the documentation of all my newer files to check my account profile page for the current address because the one on my file page probably won't work. If you go through all my uploaded file pages, you'll find lots of my old non-working @spambob.net email addresses.

As for the spam problem, I use SpamBot.com to make a forwarded email address for each site that requires an email address. If I start getting too much spam, I can tell which address it's from and permanently disable any address that's getting too much and make a new one.

In the second paragraph, I meant I use SpamBob.com, not Spambot.com.

I saw a website once that said you could trick them by using javascript that never shows the address but retrieves (sp?) it one char at a time supposedly...not quite sure as I don't understand java yet...

Is this why I have so much spam @yahoo?

The problem with using JavaScript is that some browsers don't understand JavaScript or have it disabled, so the address wouldn't show up.

I was thinking of something like

<table cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0>
<tr>
<td>mail</td>
<td>@</td>
<td>example.org</td>
</tr>
</table>

which appears as "mail@example.org" in a Web browser, but it would probably be difficult for a spambot to see it.

It would be pointless to use a browser without javascript -- too many websites REQUIRE java to work. I even had to update my java version so I could fill out the application for college.

And now, I'm having to update again because the programs that the school uses for grade management, assignment posting, and student email (where the teachers notify people of stuff) all use javascript.

It's sort of television, in today's world, it's required.

Just don't use a search to locate the address, it won't recognise(sp?) it as a word.

ok, I should have thought of this earlier but how would you put in the hyperlink so that it isn't seen by the bot?

btw, how would yuou make that a hyperlink, I can't seem to make it work? I tried putting in the tags in a few places and it is still plain text. World it need a seperate hyperlink tag in each cell?

Sorry for multiple replies.
