Happy New Year with the ticalc.org Newsletter
Posted by Michael on 1 January 2006, 00:12 GMT

The November/December 2005 ticalc.org newsletter is now released. Our once-pitiful news editor Jon is finally on the road to redemption with this issue, which was (barely) published on time.

For those of you who are not yet subscribed to the ticalc.org newsletter, you can join the ranks of the educated masses by following the instructions on our mailing lists page. We also wish you a prosperous and calculator-filled New Year (but only if you're subscribed, of course)!

Great newsletter! Kevin Kofler is a great pick for the interview, since he always seems like such an intelligent and motivated guy. And I must say I was surprised to learn that Kevin and I have the same birthday, except that he was born 4 years previous.

Also, the question you asked about how Kevin likes ticalc.org made me think about the one big missing piece for me from this site. It does not seem to be for developers. There is not a real forum that could be used to discuss projects, except those massive and impossible to navigate threads at the top. And also, there is no method to post news about interesting up-and coming projects that are not complete as of yet. I wish there were a section for betas and demos and that news articles could go up showing someone's work and progress and encouraging support for the developers. That's just me thinking though.

Happy New Year!

I think a developers forum on ticalc would be a great thing.

Anyways, Happy new years!

And lots of spam, and new comers so we would need a lot of mods.

I know I'd come here a lot more if there were discussions among developers.

Yeah that is true, but there are quite a few places to go where the developers are.

I use UTI, and Cemetech or my developer discussions...ticalc.org is more of a community hub

I think a lot of us would like to have our downloads and our developping in the same site. I know I would.

Well, there are mailing lists. They have been mostly inactive during the past few years, but the subscriptions are still alive and any time a question pops up the answer comes instantly. It seems most newcomers simply don't know about it.

But the archives are "closed for the moment" for all of 2005 and at least some of 2004, IIRC. Hopefully they will be open for at least a few months of 2006.

there are great boards for developers at TI Freak Ware and RBPx. let's not forget that ti-news.net isn't dead and provides project hosting and awesome forums. who here's been around since before 11/2001 ?

maybe a way to include a forum would be to renvate the programming section of ticalc. maybe i'm just ignorant but it doesn't seem like much goes on over there. for instance the program ideas is really poory organized IMHO. please don't be offended if i'm wrong...
