X-Link v1.0 Released
Posted by Michael on 24 June 2005, 04:17 GMT
For over five years I've been waiting for the release of Brandon Wilson's 83+ flash application, X-Link. Stuck in perpetual development since 2000, X-Link allows a 83+/84+ to send and receive variables from the 85, 86, 89, 92, 92+, and Voyage 200. This could be useful for backing up non-flash calculators such as the 85 and 86.

Well, there is only one problem, the thing is that all calcs such as the 73 have less advanced functions, so I dont see how you could play pacman 3D v0.5 (see web page link for more details) but I find putting 68K games on z80 calcs especially since 68k calcs have more ram/rom then z80 calcs.

Perhaps with this we'll start seeing more cross-calculator program development, so a TI-83+ program can read/write the same files that can be read/written by the TI-89 version of the same program.
Or maybe not. I can still dream, though.

We still need a program to transmit variables we can actually use. I want to make a number on my 83+ and ship it to my v200 and use it as a number, and vice versa. I want to send v200 text files to my 83+ and have them show up in Nifty. I already plan on doing this, but it will be at least several years before I even start. (Unfortunately, programming is relatively low on my priorities list, not through any choice of mine.)

UniLink (if I ever finished it) would allow just that, but would only run on the 68K calculators. Since it is in C, it could probably be ported to the Z80-based calculators with minimal recoding, but I currently have no intention of doing that. I really would like to finish it, but it is not my top priority (right now, I am trying to make an AI & learn Old English (pre-1200's), & since it is summer, I have to help my parents around the house (unless I get a job, but that would take up even more time)).
UniLink's method is to pretend to be another calculator of the same type, so the variables can be exchanged via the Var Link screen on the guest calculator.
