TI has released AMS 3.01. You can find versions for the 89 Titanium and the Voyage 200. Version 3.01 "optimizes battery performance for use with the TI-89 Titanium Presentation Link Adapter." There is no other information available.
Kevin Kofler has updated his HW3Patch utility for compatibility with this new release.

I would like to point out that they clearly state that ALL data, including Apps, will be erased, so make SURE you do a COMPLETE backup before upgrading!
I'll update later today when I have enough time to spend 10 minutes backing up, however long to upgrade the AMS, and however long to restore the backup...

First of all, C++ is not an alternative to GTK, it is an alternative to C, but you still need need something for the graphical interface. You might equate C++=MFC, but that's the case only in the M$ world (and even there not always). MFC doesn't work on anything other than Windows, and doesn't compile with anything other than VC++. That's unusable for a portable application.
As for Java, it includes Swing which is at least the same type of software as GTK is, but how is Swing any better than GTK??? It's also a non-native interface, it also has to be installed separately, it isn't any faster. And Swing is proprietary whereas GTK is Free Software. I really can't see any advantage for Swing over GTK.
Now, Java with SWT or C++ with wxWidgets might me an interesting alternative (they are portable wrappers around native widgets), but there are reasons for using GTK over such wrappers.

OK, I upgraded.
Things I noted:
a) Yes, it does clear all memory, apps+archive included, so make sure you do a complete backup. Note if you use tilp's backup function, your apps will not be backed up. I learned this the hard way. Though, if you do get in the same fix I did, just make sure you register your Titanium @ education.ti.com, and you will get a download link for cellsheet. The rest of the bundled apps are free for the download from ti, so you should be good there.
b) The 2nd+left+right+on to reset ram sequence seems to be almost instantaneous now, rather then having to wait a minute. I did not completely test this, and it may just be because my calc had just reset, though I did do it even after loading a few apps on the calc.
c) The version number is now 3.01, rather then 3.00 ;)
Those were the only things I noted...I imagine they have also fixed a few miscellaneous bugs between the old date on the about screen (sometime March 2004), and the 3.01 date(10/7/2004).

Hmm, I just did a test reset again, to see if you are correct...
I have several apps installed: Calculus tools, calendar, cellsheet, contacts, finance, notefolio, our world, planner, poly root finder, simult equ solver, stat/list editor, studycards, sstart, smg, and tasks.
I also have several miscellaneous games/programs loaded into archive.
This time, after 2nd+left+right+on, the initializing screen blinked by almost faster then I could see it. Even with just the preloaded apps on, right out of the box, AMS 3.00 takes upwards of a minute to run through this screen. I do not think just the number of hooks explain it, as the stat/list editor has quite a few, and it was still instantaneous - a far cry from the minute of 3.00...
As far as I can tell, there is a definite improvement in this area...
