Flavien Racine Releases TEXAS Fighters
Posted by Michael on 7 February 2005, 05:09 GMT

[TEXAS Fighters v0.1] Flavien Racine has released v0.1 of his new fighting game, TEXAS Fighters. Requiring neither a kernel nor any external libraries, TEXAS Fighters is a traditional Mortal Kombat-style game. This is still a beta release, but it already includes the basic fight moves, three combos, and multiplayer support. But even better, the entire game was written in pure assembly language. Hopefully this will blossom into a classic as it progresses in development. One last note: About 50 KB of free RAM is required for it to run.

This is the sort of game I've been looking for. I gave up on Street Fighter because of the glitches. When you finish this you might just get a place in the history books. Please make sure to include compression, a ppg version for use with sstart would get my vote (if you haven't already optimized for size).
P.S. How do you convert ASM files to ppg? I can't figure out the tict converter. Could someone please explain it to me, or give me an easier option?

For some reason, it doesn't let me submit a comment to the article! (It says that you can't doublepost, but my comment does not show up!)

No; I am not stupid; all of the articles are on one page for me.

Okay, here goes:

I knew that this game would be featured...

Does anyone know the key combo for the fireball? I think I once did it in practice mode (no AI), but I can't get the combination... :(

Just so you know, the Voyage 200 Personal Learning Tool doe NOT use the keys that you stated in your read-me; it used the 92+ combination. I checked all of the keys, and they did not work.

Perhaps HW detection problem for v200... I'll look at that for next release...

Thanks for replying, but that wasn't my worst problem. I want to know how to run ttppggen. I think it needs to be run in DOS or requires another program installed or something. I have XP. Could you point me to a more idiot proof readme than the one that comes with Tools Suite? I'm not programming savy so go easy on me.

Hmm

Forgot to mention, I don't even plan on using any other part of Tools Suite. I just want the conversion. I wish I could just find an easier way to get it.

Open a command prompt (there is an entry somewhere in your Start Menu saying something like "MS-DOS Command Prompt"), then cd to the directory containing the TIGCC Tools Suite executables by entering these 2 commands:
D:
cd \path\to\tt\bin
(where D:\path\to\tt\bin is the directory ttppggen is installed to. Note that you have to enter the drive separately for historical reasons.) Then enter the command I have already given.

Thanks, alot. I've been trying to figure this out for a while. It's been so long since I've had to use DOS prompt that I'd almost forgotten how. The last time I needed it was back in the days when Keen 4 was still a hot item, long before I knew thing one about computers. I think that this should do it. Thanks again.

I find it funny how the file description (and picture preview) clearly shows Ken/KoF graphics (and probably move sets), yet the news piece says the game is a traditional "Mortal Kombat style" game. Quite an injustice to TEXAS Fighter, and KoF in general.

I think he was refering to the game type in general, but you do bring up a good point.

Never mind that Street Fighter came out before either of them...

The collision detection in that animated GIF looked absolutely amazing! The calc 'industry' doesn't have nearly enough fighter games if you ask me (let alone grayscaled and linked ones). This Texan's hat goes off to Flavien Racine.

I don't think it's going to detract much from the game at large.

Hmmm.. A little passive-aggressive, but true. I guess it is a little funny too. Does the program have one of those player's initials functions? It would be cool if it does (especially in linked mode). Anyway, I'm itching to see the first reviews.

No hard feelings then. Actually, I don't blame you one bit because there's tons of n00bish posters here; which is why I generally avoid these forums like the plague unless a really good game comes out. Heh, I'd probably do the same thing!
