It's That POTY Time Again
Posted by Michael on 5 December 2004, 00:08 GMT

Voting for the 2004 Program of the Year awards is now open. Last year was the first time we held this competition and it was a huge success. All featured programs from 2004 are eligible to win the Program of the Year award. Participating is as easy as simply voting for your favorite program in the weekly surveys and then waiting for the results in January.

As always, survey results will be hidden until all voting is done. In addition to being mentioned on the POTY webpage, winners will receive a special screenshot. This first week of voting is for the TI-83/83 Plus/84 Plus, so go exercise your ticalc.org civic duty right now!

Update: The second week's poll is up. Vote now for your favorite TI-85/86 program.

Would it be possible to link each program name to its entry in the archives, in the poll choices? Just a random idea I had earlier.

That's actually a good idea, because I doubt everyone has downloaded and tried every program listed. And it would make it easier.

So what, you can't use HTML in the poll choices? That's a bit overly protected, especially since only staffers can post a poll anyway.

Maybe they could link to all the programs in the news article, as a work-around.

I don't think it is possible. You can go to this page (also in link^^) and just browse through 2004.

Maybe the text "featured program in 2004" in the article should be linked to the page?

Of course this would be possible, but ticalc would have to change their php-code.

*Sigh* read this, culled directly from the article,

"Participating is as easy as simply voting for your favorite program in the weekly surveys and then waiting for the results in January."

Now then, ask yourself, where are the polls located on ticalc.org? Oh yeah, on the main page, where they always have been!

I believe they use PERL, not PHP. (Note the .cgi extension on most of these pages)

A more proper title would have been "It's that time of the year again." ... referring to the phrase, "It's that time of the month again," which refers to, well, you know. It's funny that the female population of users on this site is less than 1%

I would call it depressing. I never once had the chance to go:

Me: Hey baby, I added your file yesterday.
Chick: Oh Morgan, your my hero!
Me: No, I'm just your local filearchiver. But you want to get some dinner and catch a flick?
Chick: <fants in my arms>

...I consider it a lost opportunity :-(

That's why I'm taking a car body repair classes in college. So although I'm majoring in Computer Science, I can fix chick's cars and experience the type of dialouge you described above.

Me: I fixed your fender, and gave you a free air freshener.
Chick: Really? For me?
Me: Oh yeah, and I busted your other taillight so your car is at least symmetrical when you hit the brakes.
Chick: Sigh... Are you single?

That's really too bad. :-/ Now if a rare calc virus "accidentally" got onto her calc and the OS had to be reinstalled, you would have your chance... (NOT that this would be a good idea or anything!!!) :-D
