I like how the poll is put up before the news article. And maybe a new acronym is in order, mainly because this isn't a plumbing site (at least, not that I am aware of).

Lets put it like this, POTY is not a true acronym. True acronyms are read like any other word. For example: AIDS, SARS, NASA, or RIP.

Basically its the POTM (which you can't pronounce as a word) but with a Y.

True, POTM can't be pronounced, but POTY ends with a y, which enables you, if you want to, treat it as a poorly spelled word.

And WSU can be spoken in other ways besides saying each letter. :-p

The secret is to not let them know you like calculators. However I have been gioing out with this one girl and she knows I like programming for calculators (she forced it out of me) but she actually thinks its a pretty cool hobby...who would have thought?

Haha, that would never work for me. The whole school knows me for being good at math and for "knowing everything" (I wish) about calculators. Besides, if they're the type of girl that would make fun of you for having a geek hobby, then they're probably not worth it. My last girlfriend thought it was cool that I could program her stuff on her calculator. *shrug* The ones that would make fun of you would probably be really n00bish anyway. ("wat iz dat calclutor u nerd lol") And going out with a n00b would drive me insane. ;-)

Use lots of jargon that they can't understand. I did a project on computer programming and just ended up confusing everyone. I was asked that day if I could 'speak' java.

Thats happened to me too. I have had people ask if i could speak diffrent computer languages after talking about it at school. Its kinda sad and funny when it happens.

People know me at my school for programming for the calculator. My math teacher sends kids with calculator problems to me. He could look at them for 10 minutes not figuring it out. When i look at it, in less than 1 minute later, the problem is solved. Way too many calc noobs in the school.
Guess what causes most problems. Thats right, games.

One little unknown fact:

POTY wouldn't exist without the creator of CG Barrett. One night we were chatting about holding a {GOAT} Greatest Of All Time, contest where there would be extensive voting to determine a top 20 list of the best TI calculator programs ever made. The GOAT acronym was by Barrett I'm sure of :-)

From there the ticalc.org staff evolved the idea into something that we could handle...POTY.
