Virtual TI Passes 500,000 Downloads
Posted by Michael on 19 October 2004, 04:05 GMT
Virtual TI v2.5, currently our most downloaded file of all time by a wide margin, has passed the 500,000 downloads mark. This achievement is even more amazing when you consider the fact that VTI hasn't been updated in over four years. Congratulations to author Rusty Wagner on constructing the Egyptian pyramid of TI calculator programming.

Hey, in case you hadn't noticed, I too know what I'm talking about. I'm sorry if I didn't make what I'm talking about clear to you.
In the case of the 83+ and the 73, which happen to be two elements of all calculators, there is a rather important distinction to be made. The OS upgrade file contains only 14 pages of data, and 32 are necessary for a happy functional calculator. One of the remaining 18, page 1F, contains non-trivial data (the boot code.)
Now, as I noted, the Flash Debugger contains the full 512k in the form of a CLC file, and VTI 3 will happily accept those files. But those aren't OS upgrades, and even if you converted one into an 8xu file, it would fail to validate for various reasons I'm not going into.
As far as what TI will send you -- I was under the impression that they were only in the buisiness of distributing OS upgrades. Do they also distribute CLC files on request? It's possible; is this what you meant?

First of all, I don't use kernels. EVER. On ANY calculator I own, owned, or will own. Therefore, I need not concern myself with statement 3, since it doesn't apply to me.
Secondly, I know VERY little about Ghostbuster, since I don't program in assembly anymore (I used to, but found it to be more frustrating than productive). I won't be downloading VTI again, since I really have no use for it now - I'm going pure TI-Basic now.
