Excitebike 68k Released
Posted by Michael on 21 May 2004, 03:54 GMT

[Excitebike 68k]Instead of posting news this week, I've been spending sleepless nights finishing the last major projects of high school. But now, I return to bring you news of an astounding new game for the 89, 92+, and Voyage 200, Excitebike 68k. Excitebike is a clone of the NES game by the same name. There isn't much to say, other than the graphics are superb and the gameplay looks very realistic.

This game is good. [There is little to no value to this comment.]

Sweet game, although the animated screenshot is a bit jerky. <downloads>

WHOA, those graphics look SO much like the ones in the NES version. (I have this game for NES as well as Ice Hockey) This looks really amazing. I must download this now.

Great job!

Haha, well, I was just about to post a question about "is it possible to beat level 1?" but then I re-read the readme and found out that the flips actually help you decrease time. Were there flips in the original NES game? If so, I didn't know of that. LOL (Isn't that sad?)

Anyway, this game is incredible, and I want to give a big congratulations to the author! *keeps on calc*

As far as gameplay goes, adding flips is the only change I made from the original NES version. Also, it is possible to beat Track 1 without doing any flips, though you won't get too far on the other tracks without them.

Really? Haha, then I just might be slow or something. I was really determined to beat it... I played for hours in a car trip. :D

Now I'm still trying to beat level one WITH the flips, and I almost have it. I just keep overheating. I'll probably get it in Driver's Ed :)

I like the addition of the flips, it adds to teh game, plus, it looks cool ;-)

I'm not so good at making screenshots. The real game is not jerkey, though.

Just get something like Virtual TI and then something like CalcCapture and it's really easy. Making good ones really is hard, though. I'm bad at it too.

Under GNU/Linux I played with xwd (X window image dumper) to capture animated screenshots from VTI running under Wine.

I got about 6 (more or less) frames per second with xwd, but I think I could get a faster framerate by writing my own image dumper to capture multiple frames (xwd dumps only a single image).

This is by the same guy who made Ice Hockey 68k.

Keep up the good work, Travis!

This is an awesome game. It is all I have been playing for the past couple days. I am one of those "idiot joe schmoes" that the author writes about in the source code that try to get the cheat codes from the source code, but can't figure it out :o). I am getting the cheats the hard way (beating level five in under 50 seconds). I really like the moon gravity cheat. It's cool, though not that great for actually racing. THIS IS AN AWESOME GAME!!! The only thing that this needs is more levels.

I tried to stick as close to possible to the original NES version (which only had five built-in tracks). You can, however, create hundreds of externally compressed tracks with the built-in track editor to race on.

That is what I did. It took me about 30 sec. They are pretty cool. I sitll can't do a frikkin' back flip.

that's weird, 'cause I can't do a front flip. I can do a backflip and have all the cheats, though.

As I stated in the game's source, I would really appreciate it if nobody posted the cheats online for everyone to see. It really defeats the purpose of having the challenge of unlocking them.

Sorry-it's just that the game is almost impossible to beat-though it is extremely fun.

they aren't that hard to get. You need to beat track five in under 50 seconds. When I first started playing I thought that would be impossible, but now it isn't that hard.
