SKye for 89/92+/V200
Posted by Michael on 28 April 2004, 02:56 GMT

[SKye]SKye (yes, with two capital letters) by Jim Babcock is an action-puzzle game for the 89, 92+, and V200. The goal is to collect all of the diamonds on a level, avoiding the monsters. There are various objects along the way to assist you.

In unrelated events only mentioned to decrease the brevity of this news item, I've ordered my 84+ SE :)

This is an awesome game! I love it. Everybody go download it! Unless you want to keep your sanity, cause it's way too addicting.

What if I've already lost my sanity? (Hypothetically speaking, of course.) Can I still download it?

Actually, they haven't been able to determine that yet. After playing tetris for about two straight hours - without a break - no one really knows. ^ - ^

Then there's the fact that I love math. That seems to put at the top of the insane list for a lot of people.

Yeah, no_one really knows ;-) And playing tetris for two hours straight really does weird things to you. Haha, playing Kye for longer is better. Do that instead :)

I agree :-D

Longer than two hours? I've got that beat by a long shot.

Could someone make a version of this for the 83? I feel left out *sniff*

Wouldn't it be easier for someone to port it to the 83? Besides, I can't afford an 89 right now.

Omg... *lol* A TI-89->TI-83+ port request. *dies*

And as I always say... "If you think it's easy, then you port it."

C isn't _anything_ like z80 ASM. It would require a complete rewrite.

I was trying to make a point. I would rather wait until someone ports it to the 83 (which I doubt will happen) than buy an 89.

Why? The 89 is the most awesome calculator TI makes (with the exception of the soon-to-come 89 Titanium). Download VTI from here and an OS from eduction.ti.com and see why.

My trusty 83SE does everything I need it to right now.

Actually, SKye might actually be portable to the 83+. It would be a rewrite, but only of the game engine, which represents a very small portion that went into the game (most of the work was the editor, making levels, and reverse-engineering the rules of different versions of Kye). Of course, I don't know an op of Z80, so it probably wouldn't be *me* doing the port. But it's possible, nevertheless.

I'm fairly proficient in translating from C to asm by hand (I'm not really a masochist), so I might try porting it to the 86, then someone else can port to the 83 (86->83 should be easier than 89->86 in theory).

Does anyone else want to help me with this (preferably an 86 asm developer)?

What are you good at programming? Can you do user interfaces well?

I'm good mostly at general-purpose stuff, game logic (in the case of games), and other low-level logic. I'm not all that good at user interaction; basically I just don't have good UI skills.

Well, yes, it is possible, I know that, but it would still require a total rewrite, since the calculators and processors are so different. Most people aren't up for re-writing a game all over again, in a different language.
