File Rating System
Posted by Magnus on 14 March 2004, 18:25 GMT

The first part of our shiny new file rating system has been finished. This is the part that will collect the rating of the community, and store it in our database. We do not yet create any reports based on the ratings information, but will eventually. As usual, you can only rate each file once.

So, please go ahead and rate a lot of files. That way the initial rankings will contain valid data once they go up. To rate a file, bring up its file information page, and select your vote.

Update (Joey): We didn't forget about Pi Day, but no one around here could come up with enough material for an article. I guess you could go read mine from last year, or even better, Andy's article from four years ago. Happy Pi Day.

Update (Magnus): The forms now show which end of the scale means good and which means bad.

One major problem: people don't know if 1 is the best or 10 is the best. Maybe the two extremes should be labeled?

I would assume 10 is better but a very good point. If they are not labeled you might get mixed results.

Yes.. VERY mixed results indeed. I'm not voting until I'm sure which is which.

Never thought of that before, though the rating on the right (with the higher number) is usually the best rating.

Anyway, off to go through the archives giving everything 10/10 that I've downloaded that hasn't destroyed my calc.

Including Quadratic Solvers? ;-)
Please rate really useless programs (NOT specialty programs, but really, really useless ones!) down as much as you can. :-)

Nooooo, I really wanted to give some of those stupid games I made a bad rating. I uploaded them right after I set up my graph-link. If I had known that in two more days it wouldn't have been fun anymore, I never would have uploaded those stupid games.

IMHO, they should allow you to rate your own programs 1/10, but not anything better. :-)

You see, I only download useful stuff. I didn't say "giving everything 10/10 that hasn't destroyed my calc." I said, "giving everything 10/10 that I've downloaded that hasn't destroyed my calc." There is a huge difference. BTW, you don't need to lobby to me, rate it yourself.

I haven't tried, but that's great foresight by the ticalc.org staff! :-)

Here I go to rate all my favorite programs highly...

Confusion over system!

Is it me or do they need labels on the rating system. Is 10 the highest or is a program "number 1"? I don't understand what to select.

They need to put like "Lowest" next to the 1 and "Highest" next to the 10 if that is the case. That would be very helpful.

Hmmm, I always thought Internet rating systems were standard, Like a keyboard. I mean, you don't see much difference between a macintosh keyboard and a windows keyboard do ya? The highest number is just about always the highest rating. the Lowest number is just about always the lowest rating. Then again, I've never seen a computer keyboard in denmark or sweden, so I guess I'm not sure what it's like over there.
