Oblivion v1.0 Released
Posted by Michael on 3 January 2004, 17:11 GMT

[Oblivion]Malcolm Smith has released Oblivion, a single player action/adventure game using the FAT engine by TICT. In this first-person shooter, you fight on a hostile planet in search of natural resources to save the Earth. There are the usual enemies, plants, animals, power-ups, et cetera. Go, blast yourself into oblivion on a 89/92+/V200.

Thanks for the article.

Oblivion has been in beta testing since August, so hopefully all of the bugs are gone now. If you find any problems, please email me, or post in my forum.

Lol, that's OK, not everyone that signed up tested. But I had a couple of especially devoted testers that really helped me out.

Just curious, did you get my email sent on 11/9/03?

OK, that is an awesome-looking game. I would have to say it looks somewhat better even than Arena 3D. Is seems to not be the same maze-type world set that Arena has...is that correct?

Thanks. Right, it's supposed to be locations on a different world, whereas Arena was just deathmatch/CTF arenas (and there were only like 9 tiles IIRC).

Wow, I downloaded this program before it was featured, and was thinking about e-mailing Morgan to tell him about it. It looks great!!

If you want something featured, tell Michael, not Morgan. Morgan or I just have to forward it to Michael anyway. :-)

Malcolm, you should try making a Doom clone using the Fat engine. That would probably be hard, but it would be really awsome. Just a suggestion ;). By the way your game is HOT :)!

Thanks.

The main problem with making a DOOM clone is that the FAT engine doesn't support different heights, so stairs/ lifts/ etc. would be pretty much impossible.

Just a note, the oblvtext file in the binary directories is unnecessary, that file is also installed by OblvInst. You don't need to send the separate OblvText.

I'll probably upload a new version with it removed.

Well, you've heard me say this to you already since I helped with the testing, but I'll say it again, you made a really great game and have definately outdone yourself this time.
