Tinux by Olivier Borowski

Aaron Chernosky provided me with a link to a page carrying a shell that I (and it seems like everyone else) never knew existed before (though it was apparently updated in August): Tinux. As you can see from the screenshot, it looks pretty neat; this assembly shell for the 86 has a lot of great features. This program was created by Olivier Borowski, and sadly, the entire program (source, text and everything else) is in French. English port, anyone? :) Completely Unrelated Update (Nick): Today, we once again broke the weekly request record with 1,638,602 page requests for the week of October 17. The previous record was set last week, October 10, with 1,623,549 requests - about 15,000 less. Yay.

noooooooooooooo! that was the name for my current project. oh, maybe i can convince Olivier to change his program to X11R6 or X Calc or something, since it's graphical (can't wait to try it though). My shell is command line, btw, so maybe I could translate his (I speak french) and he could translate mine (i don't speak french _that_ well) and we could bundle them together as Red Cap Tinux!! Yeah!!!

I think it was totally inapproprate for Nick to post his "Completely Unrelated Update" about the requests record being broken. Its nice that this site got so many requests last week, but who cares? We don't need an update each time a particular record has been broken. And the fact this wasn't made into its own news item simply implys that this wasn't that important to announce, so it was just stuck under the last news item. How lame.

Bryan:
1) All statistics are misleading when you do not know what they are about. If you know what a request is, then it is in no way misleading. We always say requests, not "requests for front page" or "visits" which would mean something different. I don't see the problem.
2) Unless you have completely broken the configuration of your browser, that image will be downloaded *once* the *first* time you open a comment page. After that, the magic of local or proxy cache kicks in. And one request for each person hitting the comment board the first time really makes no difference in this situation.
3) Again, statistics can *always* be tilted in any direction you want. Therefor, we provide *raw numbers*. Feel free to go to our webstats page (in the About section), and find out yourself.
Oh yeah, and I agree on us maybe posting a little too often about records being broken. We should revise our policy on that. But it *is* nice for us that your projections for eternal failure has not (yet, at least) come true.

1) Requests are the best way to accuratly gauge overall server traffic on a site because it represents how many files were downloaded from a particular server. I think the only problem with this is that most sites on the internet use a request of the front page (a Web counter) to gauge how many users view the front page of a site. This is more inaccurate in terms of how much traffic the site generates in terms of the entire site, because only the front page gets counted and all the other sites are left out of the count, but it would be more accurate in terms of how Ticalc.org stacks against it's competition Vs Home Page Traffic.
2)Magnus is dead on correct on the request count for the pictures. If your browser has a cache Enabled, and it is sizable enough, the image would be downloaded once. Even if your cache was completely disabled (everything set to 0 KB), the image would be downloaded once per page call, so if a comment board had 10 or 200 posts in it, the orange image would be downloaded once.
3)See 1.
As for record posting, I agree that it dosen't have to be posted on a weekly basis, just possibly once a month with the Program of the month award or something.
Also, if my memory serves correctly, the page looked exactly like it did last week, so if the requests record were broken for the week, it would mean that the page was getting more traffic that the previous record week (which was last week). Also keep in mind that this week Ticalc.org was the only place where the Ti-83+ Vs the Ti-community Argument was going on. I was checking it hourly, and I can guess half of the Ti-community was doing the same.

Ok, Mr. Grammar, you've got little room to talk...
>OK, I lied I do use my IRC nick to end sometimes, which is /actually my real name also/.
You could have included 'actually' or 'also', but using both was unnecessary.
>Unauthorized use of anything
This is at the bottom of your website... could you translate what the h3ll this means? Maybe you should try 'Use of anything is unauthorized'.
Also.. someone visit Racko's site. On his main page, when you first enter his site, he misspells his own name twice. Of course, I could be wrong - is there someone named 'Rocko' helping you with your site?
>Racko destroys his TI-86, while in the middle of upgrading...
>Rocko decides that he is going to buy the TI-83 Plus from his school
When it comes to spelling errors, we all make 'em. You can't even spell your own name correctly. :P
P.S.-
>You do NOT screw with me, or you WILL die
Umm.. don't be such a twit. No one's gonna die for insulting the almightly Rocko.. oops.. Racko.
