Super Mario v0.9 and Blink Released
Posted by Nick on 12 October 1999, 03:49 GMT

In the past few days, many exciting programs have been released. These two are of special note:

Tom Faulkner has released Super Mario v0.9 for the TI-83 under AShell83. This game features smooth side scrolling and excellent effects such as underwater play. It also comes with a level editor, so external levels can be made.

TCPA has made another great game. This game, called Blink, is available for the Ion shell for the 83 and 83 Plus, and also for SOS for the 83; you can get that here. This puzzle game is very similar to Lights Out where you must eliminate all the squares that are not blackened.

Thanks to both Tom and TCPA for their great programs!

I tried out Blink, but it does not work. I have Ion V1.1, and ROM V1.03. And no, I did not send the .83p version to my calc. I am a programmer my self, and i would just like to point this little probelm out. Maybe if i restarted my calc it would work, but i'm not in the mood for that, since my link cable only seems to want to work 1-way.

check all the files that came with blink.zip

there should be like a zblkst.83p if you do not include that file, (and have it not archived) it will not run blink, in short with out zblkst all blink does is blink....and blink...and blink...

also, Sam, I do know that it is a pain to hear all the 83+ users to cry about no games on our calc, but give us a break!! I mean, most of the games we have are just ports of games that 83 programmers wanted ported to an 83+. Frankly if I was to port a game, it would have to be Joltima, but unfortunately, due to size constrants, porting it would be foolish, unless it was rewritten for external saved game files that could be archived and un archived during certain parts of gameplay with a key sprite routine program that takes a considerable size of code making the game itself playable, but that would take probably too much work for most of the programmers out here, and i'm too dumb to learn z80 assembly language = ( i've tried to but it's a little too complicated... i can program basic superbly, but as for assembly, I don't know where to start, the includes, and the statements, and I've gone through JOltima several times and all it looks like is 1's and 0's to me, no words and lots of abreviations.... if ChAsm is what you're planning it to be, then go for it and finish that so some of us whining people can attempt to port programs to chasm or something then port to Ion

Yes! Finally, mario for the 83... was this by any chance based off of the demo version that someone made a while ago? TCPA - good job on Blink too, but the cursor is a little hard to see.

If you're refering to the demo version I think you are, then this is not "based" on that, it's an update of it (from v0.8 to v0.9).

Begging authors for stuff just harasses and delays them. You'd think that the author is working on the ZTetris 2 player issue. And the TI83+ is just new. Stop annoying the authors.

the aouthors of the games chose to become programmers, if they can't deal with a little responsibility, then they need to QUIT! As if there aren't hundreds of programmers. The world doen't revolve around them just because the spend their social time compiling instead of at the movies!!!

Seems to me that you arent a programmer, or you would have the opposite view. How would you feel if you got hundreds of emails per week asking stupid questions about gameplay (that can be found in the readme which noone bothers to read) and/or porting. The time isnt even the important part, its the aggravation. Its answering the same question over, and over, and over again. Its realizing that people are inately stupid.

No. It's are D*** Hobby.

Seriously. Does any big name programmer really want to program the Ti-83+ after all the ridicule and Whining against the programmers that has been going on this week? Im suprised their isn't a Ti-83+ boycott going on after all that has occured in here.

That's nice; I guess that means you've volunteered for both. When should I expect these programs to roll into /home/ftp/pending so I can add them right after?

Actually i would apreciate some help and some insight on how to program on the calc.

Listen. At times like this I don't think any experienced programmers feel like porting games to the 83+. The 82, 83, and 85 have been aroud a LOT longer than the new 83+. Frankly, at times I could care less whether something is ported to the 83+ or not. It's pretty annoying to see some of you 83+ owners getting all mad over say, a bug in a ported program, or perhaps a new game that came out for the 83 but not the 83+. Have patience AND respect for some of these programmers or forget the ports at all!

D4mn, get a clue! If I were a programmer and read this, I might think, "Oh sh1t! Beasty expects a program to be written, so if I've got my head screwed on right, I better do it.. quick!!"

Forget it. Read the archived comments from the past few years here at TI-Calc.org. There're enough comments about how thoughtless comments like yours are to fill up my 4 gig hard drive. Sheesh.

that felt good. :P

I really can't support your claim that 82 and 83 users are spoiled. After all, how many quality games can be uploaded to a single 82 or 83 at a time? I always ran out of memory, so many of the good games never made it onto my calc. The 83+ users are indeed the spoiled ones with so much more memory (not to forget 89 users... especially after reapportioning memory). Even if you can't fill up your 83+ at this time, be patient. The 83 still deserves good compressed games.

WOW! Mario rocks! This is one of the best games for the TI-83 (along with Little Dude 1-2). It's a little on the slow side, but it's really fun! There are soooooo many features it's unbelieveable! Very very cool! Get Mario! Oh, I havn't played Blink yet, so I don't know about that.

This game Should be Ported to the 82, just like tons of other 83 games were. If he would release the source code it would be ported sooner.

Oh quit whining. Here you are sittingt at your lil computers pireating programs and code off of other programmers and so on. The only three people that can make good ti-83+ games are AHMED, JOE, and TCPA all you other people saying..

Oh a bunch of TI-83+ owners are whining about how nothing good is on the plus

or TI-83+ SUCKS!!!!!!! (grow up!)

I know that below this comment a bunch of people will be flaming me so let em roll

Finally someone to stand up to this idiocy.
Everyone should really calm down about this.
The real person to blame is the guy at Texas Instruments who removed the Send(9 "Bug" from the TI-83 Plus and added the Asm( code instead.

And I honestly would try to fix the Tetris Link Play if I knew how to do it

Umm, excuse me for saying this, but why blame him (or her or them)? I see nothing wrong with Asm( ...

Oh, BTW, has anyone had any success with using AsmProg and AsmComp on a TI-83+? I tried, but it didn't work ...

Did you ever get any prog that made a fireworks display and said "Happy New Year 1999" in the title bar?

I tried too. No luck. The manual is a little vague. Do they mean for the acutal source code or the .obj form or the .bin form or the .8xp form?

on the 86 asmcomp is used to "complie" a prog
it is stored as a basic prog with "AsmProg" as the first line
the rest is the actuall hex codes of your prog
there isin't any real purpose in this, unless you wanna type a game in by hand
