Ahmed El-Helw Ports Many Popular Games to 83 Plus
Posted by Nick on 2 October 1999, 00:50 GMT
Ahmed El-Helw has recently released many exciting ports of popular games to the TI-83 Plus. These function under the Ion shell and can be also used on the normal TI-83 (under Ion, of course). They are (in no particular order) Baseball '99, Squarez, Sokoban and the classic ZTetris. For more information, head over to Ahmed's site here. Update (Nick): Ahmed has fixed a widely known bug in the recently released port of ZTetris. Keep in mind that this copy will work on both the 83 and the 83 Plus as long as Ion is installed. Update (Nick): Ahmed has fixed another bug in the port. You can grab the fixed version here. This copy should be working fine. Also, note that Ahmed will not be doing any further ports of games due to the massive amounts of flames he received in the past week. For more information, please go to Ahmed's website here.

The new version of Ztetris still has a bug! When you hit the MODE button, the calculater gives some error, and then when i restart ION the calc. froze forceing me to take out the batterys. Other than that, the other games are great. I was also wondering if there are any plans on porting Mario to the TI-83/83+. I think you could do it for the 83+, and have each level a different file. All the files would be archived, but when the program needs to run one....it will unarchive it. This way, you could have unlimited levels.

I too had my ram cleared and i'm not about to hit mode to see if the same thing happens. I am happy thought that you fixed the problem and now i can play without having to re-load/archive every thing I have. I also wish to say while reading some of the post's about the 83+ that programmers should make programs avialable to all calculators so that every calculator can have a more equal oppurtunity to every thing. It would be a shame to have ports stopped because of programmers being discuraged by people, who ignorant as the may be, think that the 83+ is "a piece of crap". I'm not saying that everyone doesn't have thier own right to thier own opinion but don't ruin something that does not effect you that much or at all. If you do use a 83+ regularly and then wish to denounce it that is your own business.
Thank you all for listening to what I have to say.

i just wanna save everybody a lot of trouble adn help keep this message list kinda short, so here they are:
ALWAYS SAY YES TO ANY/ALL GARBAGE COLLECTS WHILE RUNNING ION OR ANY OTHER ASM GAME ON THE TI-83+ OTHERWISE YOU GOT A PROBLEM!
DO NOT PRESS MODE WHILE PLAYING THE TI-83+ GAME ZTETRIS
DO NOT THINK THAT ALL GAMES ARE BUG-FREE AND THEN CHEW UP THE AUTHOR BECAUSE THE PROGRAM MESSED UP YOUR CALC OR DELETED RAM OR SOMETHIN, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT YOU RUN ON YOUR CALC
