Prior Flash Software Available? Nope.
Posted by Nathan on 27 August 1999, 19:39 GMT

Texas Instruments is now considering the ramifications of making obsolete versions of the Flash software for their calculators available. The old news item has been removed and the reported website no longer carries these files. When TI makes a decision we will be informed and report it here accordingly.
Update (Phil): TI has informed us that old Flash software will not be posted. You can still get it though, but you need to contact TI. Sam Craft has told us that he can handle requests for old Flash Software.

What exactly might the ramifications be? It seems to me that TI is _really_ dragging their feet on this whole user-assembly thing. Maybe there's a security whole or two that was patched in 1.05 that people are afraid would be exploited.

Ti has always dragged their feet when it comes to user assembly programming. For instance, there still isn't very good Ti-released information for the Ti-86. I think we'll be waiting for a long time before we see any information for the Ti-89 and Ti-92+. They say they will release something in Jan, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

One thing I can say, is that the TI-89 and 92 + are motorolla based calculators, wouldn't it be wise to say that there is no actual use for them to bring this out since there already is tons of well documented 68000 assembly language reference ?

We know all we need to about 68k assembly. What we don't know is how to take advantage of the routines built into the calculator. When and if TI releases this info, it will allow us to make our programs interact with the calculator's current abilities, such as TI-Basic and all of the math stuff.

TI has released a little virtual-pamphlet on what their SDK will provide. Click on the link above, or go to www.technoplaza.net for more information.

WHAT! Are you crazy, there is practily no usefull information about the 68k processor anywhere. The information the programmers want are the missing ROM calls and the added abilities that TI added to the chip in the 92, 92+, and 89. Only TI has this information, all the programs would be alot more stable if all this information was known. Also the shells/OSes would be better too. So this information is greatly needed.

It seems to me that TI doens't feel like doing anything soon to release this documentation...don't know why. But they sure are being thick headed about all this. Either that or this better be some LARGE files that they are creating. It should never take this long(what?...over a year since the 89 was released...even longer for the 92?) to write something like this. They sure are slow. I really wish they would do it soon, so we can have a little more to work with.

That's weird, becaus awhile back when the 1.01 rom came out for the 92+, I sent an e-mail asking for the older version, and they sent it to me with no problem.

Yeah, it also seems that neither PlusShell nor any of its applications will run under the new ROM version. I tried reinstalling the kernel, the libraries, the progs, and even the rom a few times. However, whenever I try to run assembly programs, the calculator will simply freeze.

TI has finally seen how much time they've wasted sending users old versions of their AMS so that their assembly programs will work. I've emailed them for AMS 1.00 for the TI-89 and 1.00 and 1.01 for the TI-92 Plus. Until TI makes a decision, all versions of the AMS for the TI-89 and TI-92 Plus will be available on Techno-Plaza (http://www.technoplaza.net) in the Downloads - AMS section.

Might want to make sure that's OK with TI -- we offered to host local copies of the files, but they put us on hold while they work everything out.

I would probably be in trouble if TI knew about this, but if I were asked to remove the software, then it would be done.

I doubt TI would care, but it's not something I'm eager to find out.

It seems you were correct. At the request of Texas Instruments, I have removed the FlashROM software from Techno-Plaza.

I have asked that they understand my position and rescind their demand, but this is an unlikely event.

Could someone please e-mail me a copy of the v1.00 ROM for the TI89? I accidentally put 1.05 on there and it’s been nothing but trouble ever since. I e-mailed the guys from TI.com, but I haven’t heard from them yet and it may be a while. I’m kind of anxious to get this thing back in working order...

Thanks,
Doug

They don't work on the weekends. Sam Craft is the only person you can legally get the ROM from.

If you didn't mail scraft@ti.com, mail him instead. Don't mail it to ti-cares@ti.com.

If your link happens to fall out after 5% TI software will not "remember" the old ROM so it will wait in an idle state until you remove a battery. After this it will ask you to "Press I To Install" do that then start the FLASH Software from TI and finish sending the new or old ROM. I think this also works with a calc-to-calc transmisson. Email me if you have questions.

Yeah I know where you can get it, click on the link above. By the way I have both the Black and Grey TI-Graphlink and the black one works alot better with my TI-89 than the gray one. So I like the Black one.

Yeah... me too... i'm glad they FINALLY support the black links... also, i forgot that the flash program needed to have a "special" option enabled to work with the Black... plus... with the black... would the homemade serial links work as a black? (because it will visa versa with W32 Trans8x0

You know, I'm not sure. I have never used any link software besides TI. I have only owned TI's Graphlinks and never made my own. So I wouldn't know.

How do you enable the special option so that you can install the version 1.00 over a black link cable? That's all my friends and I have, so we're stuck with version 1.05 for the time being. No matter what we do, the version 1.00 won't install. If anyone could help, we would appreciate it!

Less stable? What on earth... rotate is fixed, and also the link doesn't freeze like it used to and probably other things. Of course I suppose you mean games.
