Tetris Attack ported to TI-86
Posted by Kirk on 11 June 1999, 20:53 GMT

Aaron Curtis has ported Tetris Attack to the TI-86. The game was originally written by Brandon Sterner, and it is a TCPA game. Incidentally, the game just won the 82 and 83 Program of the Month awards for the month of May.

Mack 2 also ported to TI-86

Regarding other 86 ports:
For those who haven't noticed, Hard Hat Mack 2 for the 86 was also released today. In my opinion, it's worth the download. For more information regarding Mack 2 (as well as the 85 port to be released tomorrow), please visit the Void site: void.calc.org. You can view screenshots and a brief story line there.

Someone said Mack 2 deserved a news article, well, this is as close as it will get.
I also mention this because Derrick Ward, my TI partner, really wants to get some feedback regarding his game. Of course, you can send any bug information or comments to me as well.

To make my comment a little more relevent to the news article, Mack 2 lost to Tetris Attack in the POTM voting by one vote, so both are very good games.

To comment on Tetris Attack, it is a very challenging game worth the download. Level 57(I believe) of puzzle mode required me to practically beg Brandan Sterner for the solution. In regards to the quality of the port, the game runs identically to the 82/83 versions.

Sam I didn't vote if you're wondering:) I have to agree Mack 2 is a good game too. Oh yeah it was level 57. Everyone gets stuck on it. I spent 2 hours on it! Then I made my mom beat it on the gameboy because i couldn't:)

Tetris Attack''s revenge
Dan

Ok, both Tetris Attack and Hard Hat Mack 2 sound like great games. But, really, where do I download them? They hide these files very efficiently. I have an 83, and if anybody knows where they're hiding the 83 versions on this site, I'd appreciate it if they told me.

Hard Hat Mack Part 2 is under games for AShell 83 and Tetris Attack is under games for SOS. However, Tetris Attack has the file name "attack.zip", so it appears at the beginning of the SOS games list. I assume you were looking for it under the T's, as most people would do, but it appears under the A's. This is because ticalc.org alphabetizes their games according to the zip file name rather than the actual title.

So...is this going to ported to the 85? Not to put any pressure on the porter Aaron Curtis, but could some production/company be willing to port it to the 85?

Obviously, I could port it should TCPA ask me. In fact, I just released an Usgard port of Hard Hat Mack 2 today (another shameless plug, sorry). However, TCPA prefers to keeps things within their organization, and my previous dealings with this group have been less than optimal. Not to mention the fact that Usgard porting is annoying because of those stupid "&" signs. So an 85 port will probably not come from me.

Actually, Aaron Curtis is in ZAPO and not TCPA, not that I know of anyhow...

Actually, it doesnt matter that he is in ZAPO not the TCPA. I seems to me that one of our TCPA members discusses stuff with Aaron Curtis and asked him to port Tetris Attack to the 86. Although I dont remember any discussion about asking for ports, its a good thing he did that for us, thanks Aaron... Again, I dont think we inquired to other people about ports yet, in response to Sam about the 85 port, but we'd be more than happy if we could get the games to the 85 also, from people in the group or not. To Sam, we as a group are sorry about your "less than optimal" experience with porting Yoshi to the 86, so if you are willing to port T.A to the 85 for us, that would be great...

The TI81 does not have a link port...
They have obviously used some copy-paste without being careful enough :-)

I would agree that there is an error in that page, but you can type the games directly into the calc, right?

Re: Here''s something funny from Dimension TI
Panama

To be fair, I'm guessing that Dimension TI (like a lot of other sites), for the sake of saving time, uses an automated file system in that whenever they create a new programs section for a certain calc, said section automatically displays "This archive has one of the largest selections..." and "...send the program to the calculator (via a graphlink..."

81 (as well as 80/73) owners are outta luck...
