Staffing News

Phil Genera, also known as "ldspartan" on IRC, has joined ticalc.org staff to work primarily on file archives. He's been working behind-the-scenes for the past few weeks, and we're very happy to have him involved. Kirk Meyer, our previous backup file archiver, will no longer be doing file archives now that we have Phil on board. Ahmed El-Helw, who has been working with us on our Upcoming Programs and Buy & Sell sections, is voluntarily retiring from our staff due to a busy schedule and a desire to devote more of his time to programming. We'd like to thank Ahmed for his commitment and wish him good luck in the future. In addition, we are looking for at least one more volunteer archiver. Please read the following list of criteria carefully before contacting us. - The archiver's duties are to test (where possible) and post new files submitted to ticalc.org, to periodically monitor programmers' web sites for new programs to add, to handle email sent to filearchive@ticalc.org, and to nominate programs for the Program of the Month award.
- Potential archivers should have about an hour of free online time each day at minimum (more free time is a plus).
- Familiarity with existing programs and shells is highly suggested.
- Owning multiple calculators is a plus.
- Being able to cooperate and work well with others is a necessity!
If you'd like to offer your help, please email us at newstaff@ticalc.org with the following information: - Your name, handle (if applicable), and age
- The amount of time each day, on average, you expect to be able to spend
- Which TI graphing calculator model(s) you own
- An overview of any programming experience you have (computers or calculators)
- Any other relevant information you think we should know
Thanks in advance to anyone interested in helping out. We will do our best to move ahead as quickly as possible, but please be patient if you don't hear back from us immediately.

"Voluntarily retiring"? Sounds suspicious, familiar maybe, especially given the past nature of ticalc.org. I realize there is a good 94-95% chance that ticalc is telling the honest-to-dog truth about this one, but I'll be ready to read another story if it comes out (and clogs the mailing lists for weeks).

You bastards, you killed Kenny!!!!, whoops, I mean, er, Ahmed must have left by himself....I mean, he was clueless about what goes on at ticalc sometimes, and his games kick ass, so he must make some more,.. er, I mean, would ticalc kick him out b/c he lives in Ga, the dumbest state in the union next to Alabama?, I didnt think so. Er, Ahmed, go make some kick ass games now that you have some free time......

I would like to congratulate ldspartan on his position working at ticalc.org. I have only known him for few months over IRC, but have come to respect him quite a bit. He is a great person and I know he will do a great job. Congratulations Ldspartan! :)

Now for some real irony - have Brian Rabeler apply under an alias, get the file archiving position, do a damn good job at it, and maybe one day he can tell everyone that it's really him =)

As a member of #ti for as long as some can remember, I knew lds from back in the day when neither of us had ops, and I can say he's a great guy who's also a good listener and helper when problems come up. I know ticalc.org's file archives are now in good hands. Congrats and good luck on all your endeavors!

Hmm... new archiver....

Since there is a new archiver, I may just start posting my programs at TICalc again. I submitted SchoolSuite 2.5g today (it's been out for about a week)... we'll see how that one goes. If the new guy doesn't try to tell me what I can and can't do with my own software (like Kirk Meyer did), then I guess I'll keep sending stuff in.
For those of you who don't remember (or who just plain didn't notice), I stopped submitting my programs to TICalc shortly after Kirk took over. It had nothing to do with the Rabeler VS TICalc issue... it was because Kirk Meyer was trying to tell me what I could and couldn't state as the information for my submitted programs. I received E-Mail stating that I ~MUST~ give my real name, not "The Notorious Computerman" (which, btw, has been my programmin name ever since I've been online). This is after I'd already had several programs of mine accepted under that name in the past. He threatened to mark it Anonymous, and I said, "OK fine." Rather than using anything related to "Notorious Computerman" or marking it anon, the guy got my real name from the credit screen and used that.... Needless to say, I had a bit of a problem with that.

Okay, everyone... there were no hitches, and SchoolSuite version 2.5 has been added to the archives. You can find it in the updates at the bottom of the page, or in the TI-85 BASIC archives. (Please, no flames about being a BASIC programmer. If you feel you must insult, at least try some of my software before acting).
Also, I am in desperate need of one more person to fill up the programming staff for Triangle Man RPG. You must have a good knowledge of TI-85 BASIC, enjoy music by They Might Be Giants, and be at least somewhat enthusiastic about roleplaying games. You can find out more at my webpage.
One final thing: congrats to JL of Macross Software for winning Icarus Productions' latest round of ZPC. [SUBLIMINAL MESSAGE: VISIT MACROSS's MESSAGE BOARD]
