Staffing News

Phil Genera, also known as "ldspartan" on IRC, has joined ticalc.org staff to work primarily on file archives. He's been working behind-the-scenes for the past few weeks, and we're very happy to have him involved. Kirk Meyer, our previous backup file archiver, will no longer be doing file archives now that we have Phil on board. Ahmed El-Helw, who has been working with us on our Upcoming Programs and Buy & Sell sections, is voluntarily retiring from our staff due to a busy schedule and a desire to devote more of his time to programming. We'd like to thank Ahmed for his commitment and wish him good luck in the future. In addition, we are looking for at least one more volunteer archiver. Please read the following list of criteria carefully before contacting us. - The archiver's duties are to test (where possible) and post new files submitted to ticalc.org, to periodically monitor programmers' web sites for new programs to add, to handle email sent to filearchive@ticalc.org, and to nominate programs for the Program of the Month award.
- Potential archivers should have about an hour of free online time each day at minimum (more free time is a plus).
- Familiarity with existing programs and shells is highly suggested.
- Owning multiple calculators is a plus.
- Being able to cooperate and work well with others is a necessity!
If you'd like to offer your help, please email us at newstaff@ticalc.org with the following information: - Your name, handle (if applicable), and age
- The amount of time each day, on average, you expect to be able to spend
- Which TI graphing calculator model(s) you own
- An overview of any programming experience you have (computers or calculators)
- Any other relevant information you think we should know
Thanks in advance to anyone interested in helping out. We will do our best to move ahead as quickly as possible, but please be patient if you don't hear back from us immediately.

will this result in better archiving like more screenshots, description, voting, comments, etc.?
(not that it isn't good now) but I just want to say great site!

Bryan, if you continue posting comments that are obvious jabs at ticalc.org and its staff, we will delete them, since they are not constructive or relevant.
Moreover, I don't think anyone can accept your opinion as unbiased as it relates to this site. It also goes without saying that you are in no position to make judgments on our staff affairs, having not been a part of them for the past 2 months.
If anyone ISN'T tired of Bryan's crusade to nitpick our staff and our site for his own personal reasons, please speak up. I think most of us have heard enough, and we can do without the distraction.
If you need to continue this discussion, do so in private email, or any further off-topic flames will be deleted.

Well, this definately shows how selfish the staff at ticalc.org is getting now that Bryan is gone. He stated factual information about the animated images, and you had no right to hash back at him simply becuase you don't like him. I even had the idea a couple of months a go to put screenshots together into an animated image, so stop giving yourself credit.
As for censoring out any Bryan-related comments, that only shows how ignorant you and your fellow staff members are. Comments regarding Bryan and his "dismissal" are perfectly relevant to the TI community, and I couldn't find a better place to discuss them. If you want to have the additude of "...we don't like the way you think, because it isn't the way we think. We're going to boot your comments off of OUR message board..." that's your own problem. But please, if you're going to hold public message boards such as this one, do not refrain people from discussing perfecly relevant topics, just because you don't like them.

Bryan, Fil: Nowhere did I say that comments will be deleted because (a) Bryan posted them or (b) we don't agree with them. I did say, however, that if Bryan's or anyone else's comments disobey our guidelines, they will be removed, whether we agree with them or not. I just removed a comment of Kirk's for bending the guidelines. This applies to everyone.
Kirk has good reason to be upset at Bryan, who copied Kirk's web page with animated screenshots and posted them at a new address without giving him credit. But this isn't the place to discuss that.
"Relevant" does not mean "having something remotely to do with TI graphing calculators or people who use them." Relevant, as far as our guidelines are concerned, means being on-topic with respect to THIS news item. That's why there are separate comments for each news item.
If you have anything constructive and intelligent to say about Phil's joining our staff, Ahmed's leaving, or our call for new file archive staff, post it. But we will not allow every news item to turn into a forum for endless debate about Bryan Rabeler. If others are interested in continuing a discussion about the situation, they're free to set up their own mailing lists or message boards. But after 2 months, it's time to move on, and comments on the subject will be considered clearly off-topic and will be treated accordingly.

***READ THIS***

This is what you are making this fuss over:
"Oh, you mean those animated screenshots? That's really nothing that new. They look pretty nice, but the problem is that the animations stop and don't loop for eternality.
You can view a few samples, just click on my web page link."
That's it. Everything after that is your fault for replying. Re-read the first line: "Oh, you mean those animated screenshots?" Never in that message did he say that he made them, nor was it a jab at ticalc.org _or_ its staff. "those" was referring to your screenshots, and he provided a link so that people would know what he was talking about. He was just commenting about what you said about the screenshots, so it _was_ on topic, and therefore was not disobeying your guidelines. And, he did give you credit on the web page that has them, which he wouldn't have done if he was "trying to claim them as his". He didn't at first because he didn't know that it would bother you this much? Or maybe he forgot? So shoot him. Face it, you overreacted. His message was on topic. Yours weren’t, as they were a direct attack on him. Stop whining about it. Admit it. You wouldn't have gotten this mad if *anyone* else had posted that message, so just drop it. It isn't worth it.

ok, im sick and tired of hearing bryans cryign personally. its been 2 months. you were fired, stop the crying. you know you put up the stupid gifs, trying to ruin them from making a big new announcement that the site changed, and i beleive kirk, that you didn't take those screen shots. you jsut wanted to screw ticalc before they had a chance to release it all nice and new. just get over ticalc.org. im thinking maybe if you quit your bitching, and gave them time to realize your better than who they got, if you are, then talk to them civalized in a while, maybe they will be more apt to take you back. but i personally am sick and tired of your incecent ranting and raving saying crap about ticalc.org in the message board, and in the ti-asm lists. get over it. your not the first person in the world who was fired. yeah i feel bad, you liked to do it, but its done.
