I find it interesting that the news article about Kirk Meyer's site was posted by Andy Selle. Was there any particular reason for that? Other that that, I am pleased to see the site open.

Kirk explained a while back that they would post each other's news to keep it from being blatently biased and to keep the general public happy.

Why is Kirk scared to post news articles about himself now?

Scared to? Rather, he's not allowed to. That's our policy -- somebody else must post a news item if it's about you or something you're working on. In the past, people have complained about our editors using the news section for their own purposes (even if that wasn't the case).

Also, don't you think it's a little strange that kirk has his own program, emu86, as number 1 for computer utilities? is it also strange that his is the only emu on that ballot? or is it just because kirk posted the results?

Sure, I admit, its similar to Icarus's contest. I did add some new twists in though that make it much more realistic. However, DIM-TI's contests are BASIC. BASIC contests are not at all like assembly contests (only partly due to the amount of entrants).

Now then, as for Emu86, personally I think its a terrible emulator, and I may not get around to fixing it much. However, only programs submitted in the past month can be nominated for Program of the Month, and all of the Windows programs that were submitted in March were nominated. I personally wish none of my stuff had won because they both are terrible programs.

Perhaps you are not aware, but Dimension-TI's challenges are both Assembly and TI-BASIC.

Theirs may be ASM, but AFAIK they are a combination of both (not solely ASM). Icarus's and my contests focus on things that should be done in ASM (hm lets try to rotate a sprite in TI BASIC, that'll be reeeeeely fast ;)

Actually we rotate them so some challenges are strictly ASM and some are strictly BASIC.

Mike Tussey's site was terminated? I didn't know that, wasn't it just announced a week or so ago? Why didn't ticalc.org announce that they were axed? What happened?

I just visited his site, and look what I found:

4.09.99 - Wow. Who'd a thought it'd happen. ticalc.org shut down this site today because of "inapproriate content" and "breech of contract" and other nonsense. Well, I've put warnings next to potentially offensive games and removed the editoral I wrote. We'll see how it goes...

This is disturbing. What kind of "inappropriate content" was on this site? Also, why does ticalc.org only post news articles when a site starts to be hosted, and not when the hosting is being terminated? Why only report the good news and not the bad as well?

ticalc.org, and Dimension-TI too, has to watch out for things like "inappropriate content." Both sites, I believe, make all the webmasters of hosted sites "sign" some sort of contract. Things like this happen; it's happened with several sites with us. Dimension-TI also has a contract with it's server that says we will not post any inappropriate content, such as porn or mp3s. That includes hosted sites. I know ticalc.org doesn't have that problem, but they still shouldn't be hosting sites with inappropriate content. We do the same thing, sometimes we have to "gently pressure" some sites to live up to their potential and that occasionally means termination. It's unavoidable. I'd be surprised if this were the only instance ticalc.org has had and will have.

As for why they didn't announce this, think about all the people who have been complaining that ticalc.org is "begging for news" and claiming that each news item "isn't worthy of news." I think that this is less newsworthy than most of the articles here.

I admit that some of the programs on the site could have offended some people, but you've got to keep in mind that they're only games. Calculator games for that matter. I think most people realize that. I know the TI-Files did. They added rape with no questions asked.

TI-Files also has porn in their archives. I think we all should agree that these kinds of programs are not reasonable. Don't judge the morality of a program by whether TI-Files posts it.

Ooo! Calculator porn! This is surely the cause of problems throughout the world!

From what I can tell, He had a coulple of games that were considered inapporiate. One was called Rape where the object of the game was to rape women. The other was an animation of some sort (Most likely Porn). another thing im guessing is The article he wrote about how a School banned the Rape game because of it's content.

All this I found out by reading his own site as well as the comments listed on the message board under the news article of his site. If Ticalc.org or Mike Tussey want to add to this, then that's their right. I just wanted to try to answer Bryan's question.

Yes, Magnus handles hosting, not Kirk. The launch of Kirk's site is completely independent from Mike Tussey's site moving to a new host.

Mike's site wasn't axed; he was given the choice of either removing a large section of his site or relocating it elsewhere to keep it intact, and it was better for both of us that he chose the latter. He gets to keep running his site as he likes, and we don't have to worry about hosting questionable content.

It doesn't seem reasonable to draw unnecessary attention to this. Mike's old address will continue to forward to his new one for a month, giving him plenty of time to get the word out.
