BomberBoy Released for the TI-89
Posted by Kirk on 28 March 1999, 23:59 GMT

Grent Jones has released BomberBoy v0.35 Beta for the TI-89. It is the first such assembly game available for the TI-89. This release includes fifteen levels, bonuses, and "smart" enemies. The next version is already underway.

Hey great job, you should make a speed setting for it like how mario quest 0.9.6B has in it.

Here are the changes that will for sure be in the next version of the game:

* The ability to save a game and have high scores
when the game is archived.
* A options screen that will allow bw/grayscale
and a speed setting like SMQ
* A bug fix to correct the probelems with high
scores being over one thousand

I have a question for a skilled programmer: is there a limit of the total amount of labels allowed for a68k? My source code is 10000 lines long but when I add the code for another enemy, the program acts irraticalls when I include the source file even if it isn't even in effect. Can someone help me?

Yes, I'm pretty sure there is a limit to the number of lines you can have in your source file, but I thought it was more like 32,000 lines. Check the a68k docs -- I'm sure the info is somewhere in there.

Hope that helps a little,

Is there a limit to the amount of labels you can have? i.e.:

_main:
loop:

.
.

Quoting from a68k.doc, included in the a68k directory of the doors zip (and plusshell?):

"Since labels are stored on the heap, the number of labels that can be processed is limited only by available memory."

So there ya go -- nope =)

I launched your game for the first time thru PlusShell, and the screen went dark, and when I tried to press something the screen just started to flash on and off sort of like a flourscent tube bulb starting.
I had to take out a battery to start it back up. That was the first time it had crashed in about 3 months. What is wrong here? Anyways, I am not going to try to play it again because I hate configuring everything again on my calc, but maybe this is a bug or something?

ME!

For all you people that complained about this game having a bug, it doesnt, it runs fine on most peoples calculators, so that means there is something wrong with your calculator.... try running moremem (if you have doorsos on yuor calc) i did that, and the game works fine for me (not that moremem has anything to do with the performance of the game, but it does add a nice 64K of more Archive)

This forum is a great feature of ticalc, but it is much the same as standing in a room talking to people: If you're concerned what others will say, you don't say it because it might affect your reputation. So whoever "me" is, please refrain from posting if you can't stand behind what you write. Using an anonymous name is bad etiquette. It only makes others take your comments less seriously.

Oh please do be quiet and don't tell others what to do.

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF was that???...concerned about what others say??? how the hell do you come up with that, i dont care what other people say, but i want them to consider what they are saying before they say it. EX: making the statement that the game has a bug, when over half the others play it perfectly on their calculator

Come on you guys:( I use this service as a way to improve bomberboy. When you guys send junk mail acrost, it causes this page to jump in size. Right now it is over 101kb. This is a large page to load. Please keep it to the game and enter your real names. I want this service to be present in the future. Thank you all for your help.

Sorry most of your replies had to come form hipocrites
Hove

Telling you not to tell others what to do?
Claiming, "i dont care what other people say" when if they didn't really care they wouldn't have cared enough to write.

Maybe these people should take their own advice: think before they speak or be quiet.

Nope, sorry, I already run moremem all the time, and I ran the game through Doors and it still got messed up.
BTW, how does moremem do it anyways?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it works because TI evidently left some unused flash rom free that is not allocated to be used by the archive program. Maybe it was left for future expansions or something? In any case, moremem sets the memory as read and right and allocates it for use with the archive program.

Re: Moremem
Ty

On the subject of MoreMem, where exactly does it get the 64K archive memory from? I wish someone would write a readme file to go along in the Zip file!

Will bomberboy eventually be able to be run by plusshell? I would suggest making one version for doors and another for plusshell just like smq.

It keeps on crashing!
Will

This game keeps on crashing my calculator. There is at least 50K of Ram free and 200K of memory free. I tried to put it on twice, both of the times my calculator crashed. The first time I archived it, and it caused the screen to be scrambled. The second time I put it on it said that there was a "Illegal Function Call." I was using Plusshell both times (although Dorsos was on my calculator too.) Will someone please help me??

Re: It keeps on crashing!
Thana

don't archive it. when you run archived programs, the calc has to write to the RAM first, and then run the program, so you need around 70K free to run BomberBoy archived.

Re: Re: Help!!
Sinan K.

I have the same problem. I have ROM Version 1.0, DoorsOS 1.9, PlusShell 1.00, and the newest versions of all the required libraries, stored in the main folder of my calculator. I get a "Line 1111 Emulator" error everytime I try, archived or not archived. I have 50K of archive of 130K of RAM free. The same thing happens everytime (4 times so far) I try to run the game, from PlusShell OR DoorsOS.

I don't get it--is this guy's name Grent or Gerth? He seems to have switched after a few responses. Seems odd that the guy would have two names...

Re: Re: BomberBoy Released for the TI-89

Oh, I'm sorry, I should probably use just this one with you guys. People call me both but I shall just remain Grent from now on, sorry for the confusion.
