BomberBoy Released for the TI-89
Posted by Kirk on 28 March 1999, 23:59 GMT

Grent Jones has released BomberBoy v0.35 Beta for the TI-89. It is the first such assembly game available for the TI-89. This release includes fifteen levels, bonuses, and "smart" enemies. The next version is already underway.

Port it to the TI-92+.
We need new games.

That could be a semi-near possibility. I will consider this but it might take me a while to design a new game layout for it.

Grent, you'd be surprised -- I just ported my Pokemon code to the 92+ this morning. The ONLY thing you have to change is the key input routines, and just let certain parts of the screen not be used. . . I could do it if I had the source =)

Hey I tryed and BomberBoy and I think that it is a really good game. The only things that I would recommend now are. 1. An option that lets you adjust the speed that BomberBoy can run. 2. A library for the saved game and maybe high scores so that we can archive BomberBoy. 3. Maybe some way to have external levels. I know that might be hard but it might be cool to make your own levels.
Keep up the great work.

The two games are completely different, and the link protocol for Bomberbloke86 is not documented. These games cannot link together because they are so different (even if the same protocol was used.)

tetris on the 86 and tetris on the 89 can link together, (and dont try to tell me they dont...i've done it) so why couldnt a language similar be used for bomber boy?

The two games are completely different. First, add up the amount of rows and columns that are in the game, they are different. Second think of how the bomber moves. The bomber on bomberbloke moves from one block to the other without being able to stop in the middle. The bomber in bomberboy moves freely and can stop wherever you want. Also the enemies are completely different. I don't know z80 and don't really want to learn so cross language bomberboy doesn't look very good.

It would be a great tragedy if this game had no link play. This has to be one of the funnest games ever created.

HELLLLLLP!!!!
Michale

The game will not run on my emulator. How can I now how good it is until I try it there? If it wont run on my emulator, how can I know it will run on my calc?!? What is wrong with this game?! Someone please help me!

Emulators aren't perfect. The only way you can really know whether or not the game will work on your calculator is to run it on your calculator. Just do a memory backup beforehand and you'll be fine.

But you can't make a backup on an 89 (or an 86 or 83), right?

I tryed getting just a single file from my calc (using 89 GL software 2.0) and it didn't work.
But maybe I should have just done the WHOLE backup but o well I'll try next time.

I've got the same problem... I wonder how others can play this game and not us... there aren't any rom version reasons so why doesn't it work??? Please reply quickly, I want to play!!!

I can't run it either. My calc has been wiped 3 times. I get illegal instruction, then address error, and then a pop up that says protected memory violation while flashing. What's the deal?

Dan Jacobs

I had the same problem with my calculator. I was running Doors when it happened, so I switched to Plusshell and there has been no problems since.

Re: Help!!
Gerth Jones

I have no idea what could be wrong! :( This is not good though. Can you guys tell me all the stats to your calculators? Here are my stats, it works for me:

ROM Version: 1.0 (initial version)
Doors OS Version: 1.0
Libraries: GraphLib, UserLib

Re: Re: Help!!
J.C. Gumbart

I have tried it with the latest versions of Plusshell and Doors. With Doors, when I try to run it, the contrast lightens but nothing else happens. Then when I try to exit Doors, I get an illegal instruction error. I have all the libraries, the same ROM version of the 89, and about 130K of RAM free. I have also tried it with the minimum files needed to no avail.

Re: Re: Re: Help!!
Dan

I have the same stats as yours, and if i'm not mistaken, this is the same error message that i got when i tried to run the latest version of SMQ (0.9.6?) I am sure that there is something that I am missing rather than a "bug" that other people are suggesting. Anyone know what this problem is? I wanna try this thing out, looks cool :)

Mitch

I don't know exactly what is wrong with your calculator, but bomberboy works for me, you might want to try Doors 1.9 that's what I have, and it works

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Help!!
Dan

Ok cool, I got it working but I don't understand the reasoning behind it. I never was into Doors explorer, but i installed it, ran it and bomberboy worked. Now even if i take doors explorer off my calc it works perfectly. Thanks Mitch, great game gerth

I've tried with the only required files and it works but when I had other librairies it doesn't work any more... could it be a problem of librairy location? (it works when graphlib and userlib are in main but not when they are all in "libs" folder... I've to try with all libs in main...

Re: Help!!
Michale

This is the problem I am getting on my emulator. A line 1111 emulator error and a crash on one shell, a complete crash in the other. I both plushell and DoorsOS, and all the libs that came with the shell. There must be something terribly wrong with this game.
