Matthew Shepcar of Icarus Productions has released the first public beta of Bomberbloke for the TI-86. This is a complete remake of the popular game, Bomberman, for the TI-86. In addition to single player mode, Bomberbloke supports up to four plays and features many powerups. This is a 10-level preview version, but you can expect another version to be out soon.

this game rules! i always loved bomberman for the turbo graphics 16.

yup
KAKE

of course it rules! just look at who made it. has AE ever made a dud?

in other news, officials at TI denied the claim that the 89 uses an unlicensed copy of the MC68000 processor. quote "we have always had a good relationship with motorola and it is proposterous to believe such a malicious alegation. texas instruments has always been legal and upright."

ahem... i care to differ, but that's for another time.

Re: yup
Jake

I don't care if it's unlicensed or even stolen, it works great for me.
Don't they buy the processors from Motorola, so how could they be unlicensed? Or does TI make them and pay motorola for each one they made? In that case ignore the second sentence.

Yeah, I've had Bomberman for the TG-16, Genesis, and tried it on the N-64. It's something new when it's on a calculator! Just don't try it on the emulator (it didn't even start on it for me). Pretty good game though.

Small question
Shane Abernathy

how do you expect to have four simultanious players unless using two calcs and different sides of the calc. which would suck but how?

     8 February 1999, 06:45 GMT

Re: Small question
Eugene

I agree, it does suck.

small answer
KAKE

really, it's not feasable. the only way would be to develop some kind of network, which would require a protocol, a kernel, memory, and more work than anyone in their right mind would want to do. about two years ago i drew up a basic design and wrote the beginnings of just such an item for the 85, but it wasn't reasonable to expect TI calcs to do such complex stuff.

small clarification
KAKE

sorry, i don't think that was very clear. i was talking about a TI network.

Well, I agree it is a very cool game. Makes good use of grayscale, animation, and good gameplay. I got to play a preview of this game about a month ago. I see Matthew Shepcar must have some love for Quake, CTF has always been associated with Quake2. Hey Matt, ever play Weapons factory? :) Also, the four player game idea is quite interesting idea. Matt is a cool programmer, we got a lot of optimization ideas from his source code. It is pretty sad when people are saying crap like "Port it to such and such".. I'd just love if someone replies, "Do it yourself lamer". Actually, the correct Quake2 term is "fluffy llama"

Mr. Clueless

Call me clueless (I already did) but what does CTF mean? Also, is there a list of what each key does? The Readme is better than many but a little short on gameplay specifics...a list of powerups would rock too :)

Great game. Always wanted to play bomberman in class. Keep on making some more good levels. Quantity is Quality!

Mr. ZShell

Just so you people know, there is 2 Bombermans for the 85. One is really good, but it does do the dreaded "C" word (also and 82 shell) all the time!

Me

I think Matt is the BEST programmer for the 86, and for the other calcs. From what I heard (Matt, correct me if I'm wrong) he disassembled the ROM to make all the progs that he has made. I don't think that Nagel or any of the other guys have done that. Besides, how many other people have put out games like a Bomberman type (in greyscale) Vertigo, and probably the best shell in the world? Good work Matt, and all I can say other than keep it up is: When will we see a good Dig-Dug program? That's the game I'm waiting for.

I think a good version of Dig-Dug would be awesome! I really enjoy BomberBloke and hope that Matt continues to improve it. BTW, what's the benefits to running a shell?
