More than 200 reviews
Posted on 4 January 1999, 01:23 GMT

There are now more than 200 reviews in our newly overhauled Reviews section. We have our (mostly) dedicated Review Staff to thank for that. At this point, reviews are fairly balanced except in the TI-85 department. We are desperately in need of someone with good English skills who can review TI-85 programs. If you think you are qualified, please consider filling out our application form. Note that you may not receive individual replies, but we do appreciate you taking the time to fill the form out. Please e-mail Kirk Meyer with any questions you have.

Yay! The ticalc review staff rules! We are the masters of the universe!

Incidentally, is there any way for us to update reviews that have already been posted? I've had a couple e-mails correcting my reviews, but I haven't found a way to fix them in the system.

The easiest way to edit your review once it has been posted is to copy the text into a new review box and resubmit it.

It also seems to me as if the 92 and 92+ reviews are a bit lacking... It seems all of the reviews are for the 82/86/89, with a few for the 83 and 92, and not so many for the 85...

Just my opinion,

Hey Dan, its nice to hear an opinion such as yours. I agree with you on most parts (except the 83 reviews, I think the reviewer is just a bit on the lazy side), and I have the perfect solution. If you (or someone you know) has access to these calculators, and has good English skills, please have them turn in a sample review at the link stated above. It is the only way to to help us help you recieve a fair amount of reviews for the afformentioned calcs. Its that easy.

If someone wants to become an 82 reviewer, that would be greatly appreciated, too. I am currently the only one.

If you want, I would be willing to review TI-82 programs.

You need to submit an application using the link located within the news article. Acceptance shouldn't be hard. Just be sure to pick a game that you have plenty of things to say about for your sample review(2-3 good paragraphs). Of course, I have no say in the matter at all.

I already submitted one for the TI-86. Should I submit another one?

No, one is enough. Reviewers are no longer designated to specific calculators.

What about a person with a TI-86 with TI-85 emulating capabilities ie.Ashell?

If you can run programs well enough to review them, that's all that counts. Emulators, whatever, it's all fair game.

Once I get my graph link up and running again, I'll do it. I just got a new comp and the graph link port doesn't exist. I need to buy an adapter.

Using a TI-86 to emulate TI-85 or TI-82 programs is fine for reviewing. However, try not to use emulators for the PC/Mac if possible because its just not the same as using the calculator. The main two reasons being different keys and different speeds.

I am a 85 reviewer, but my graphlink is currently broken, also, I got an 86 for christmas. I think the reason the 85 doesn't get many reviews is that it doesn't get many reviewable games. I will be posting some reviews soon, but until my graphlink works, sorry guys.

I could do reviews for ti92+ programs. Do you people want separate reviews for the 89 and the 92+. How bout eliminating both and adding a review section for Plusshell.

I would be glad to do reviews for the 92+.
I also own an 86 if that would be neccesary

You know what? That is a good idea. Still even better, though: Divide the existing 89 and 92+ asm files into those for neither shell, those for Plusshell (as in using Plusshell libraries), and those for DoorsOS (as in using Doorsos libraries).

I would say link reviews for programs both for the TI-89 and TI-92+ so that one review would pertain to both versions. However, there would be some discrepancies, the most obvious one being screen size (let's not forget grayscale as opposed to bluescale :)

Perhaps I may be of service

Within the next few days, I will have a Parallel link ready for my new computer. However, this link was incompatible with my old computer, and I hope it is compatible with my new computer. If it is, then I can review for the two calcs that I do have, the 83 and the 86.

By the way, does anyone know why the parallel links don't work on certain computers? I ran LinkTest, a program I downloaded, and it said my port was fine. I double checked the solderings and the physical connection and it seemed to be fine. I had the drivers for it. What was going on?

Anyway, I will be able to review for both calcs that I have, and hopefully an 89 if I get one.

Im not sure of the exact reason why the parallel link would not work with your computer but the same thing happended to me. It wouldn't work on my old computer but it works fine on the one I have now. I hope it will work on yours too.

BTW I could probably do reviews for my two calcs the 85 and 86. Ill just have to do a sample review.

While we''re on the subject of Parallel Link cables
Shane Abernathy
(Web Page)

Mine does not transger correctly when my contrast has to be set below 6 to view properly, (only on my 86, not on any others) ie the batteries are fresh. But it sends just fine. Also if possible, could someone send me a *good* link program for a parallel link. One that will let me group and ungroup program files. And possibly be able to write programs on the prog as well. Thanx
