Petition started for USB TI-Graph Link cable
Posted on 7 December 1998, 06:22 GMT

Miles Raymond is starting a petition for those who would like to see Texas Instruments develop a TI-Graph Link cable that supports the Universial Serial Bus (USB) protocol. Miles would like at least 100 names before he sends the list to TI, however he currently only has about 40 names. If you wish to be included on this list, send him an e-mail with your real name.

I own an iMac, and I would much rather use a USB Graph Link cable than have to go out and find a USB to serial converter which I would use for nothing else.

I think usb is the greatest idea ever, and a TI calc with usb connectivity would be great!

Most of our department are mac users and TI-Graph Link users. It will be expensive, as we upgrade, to add USB adapters to each computer.

We have a lab of iMacs in our school and my students can't download their files from their TI calculators.
We could put an old Mac in the lab for them to use but to do this but that seems silly.
Please can we have a USB graphinc link.

USB is the new standard that all the computer manufacturers are adopting. Since it works on both PCs and MACs, the cost of production should cost less than the current link package. I have a mac that's got USB ports on the back and would love to be able to use a graph link without spending an extra $50-$75 before it works (if it does).

I agree entirely that TI should make a USB GraphLink. The $80 to $100 pricetag of a USB to serial adapter for any new Macintosh (iMac, G3, or Powerbook) is rather limiting, especially for college students. If TI wants to continue to support Macintosh, USB is the way to go.

In France too, we would appreciate a USB graph link. It would be so easy to hook up to the iMac (and any new computer from Apple, including a portable model that every student will want to have soon now...).

A connection to a "Universal Serial Bus"? What a novel idea. Besides USB is hot swapable so I won't have to tie up a serial port with an infrequently used transfer cable.

Au moins avec un TI-Graph Link USB, les branchements seraient moins fastidieux que maintenant, en plus pour brancher sur un I-Mac, bonjour...

I think that a USB graph-link would be great!! I have an iMac, and use an 83 plus.

Does anyone know if you can use the regular graph-link and a serial/USB conversion device??

I agree. The macs are becoming more and more popular. As usual, the mac is ahead of the PC world. This means PCs are going (and currently are trying) to go to solid USB, like all of the new macs. This means for TI to keep up it really needs a new USB version. I am 100% for a USB version. O yea, sell it at Staples too!

I strongly endorse the development of a USB GraphLink
product. One of the main applications of the
fine TI Graphing Calculators is in education, and
the education market is (happily) still relying heavily on Macs. Further, even the PC world will be going over to exclusive USB use before long.

TI and iMac are a great combination -- except for the lack of USB GraphLink. Do it. The sooner the better. While you're at it, please also extend GraphLink 2 support to older TI calculators.
