Petition started for USB TI-Graph Link cable
Posted on 7 December 1998, 06:22 GMT

Miles Raymond is starting a petition for those who would like to see Texas Instruments develop a TI-Graph Link cable that supports the Universial Serial Bus (USB) protocol. Miles would like at least 100 names before he sends the list to TI, however he currently only has about 40 names. If you wish to be included on this list, send him an e-mail with your real name.

Yes!! That would be great!! I just convinced my parents to get me a graphing calculator, and I would be on my own as to buying a link, and then to have buy a serial to USB adaptor- no way! With new Macs being USB, TI would be doing us a favor (I have an iMac). But... If TI says they will make one, how long will it take for them to release it?

I have an iMac G3, and I think it would be very popular if Texas Instruments were to build a USB link. Because alot of people have the iMac G3. I was the most popular computer bought. If Texas Instruments were to build the USB Graphlink or at least an adaptor, they would make alot of money, but they aren't because one could buy an adaptor themselves and sell them on eBay or any auction site. It is quite stupid of Texas Instruments, if they don't even plan to do something for USB.

They do have one, but as far as I know its only for Macintosh. It's the very first one listed at the website mentioned above.

What would be so nice about USB??? The reason that it is so popular for the computer is because it is fast, not because it is easy to use... and you can't make the current connection any faster because of the calculators limitations, not the serial ports...

The problem is not calc limitations. Non TI links can go faster than the standard graphlink.

A USB is only a logical and likely cost saving advantage for many!

With USB becoming the new standard in connectivity, a USB adapter is a must.

The development of a USB version of Graph Link would be progression from the serial connect, since USB is replacing the serial connection.

This would be superior to the use of a USB to serial adapter.
