Preview of Windows 2000
Posted on 30 August 1998, 01:51 GMT

[Windows 2000 Screenshot]
"HackNiN" is developing an assembly shell/GUI program called Windows 2000. This will initially be for the TI-86, but it will probably be ported to the TI-83 and TI-85. Windows 2000 is aimed ot be a clone of Windows for the PC. Features that should be included are icons, an icon maker, APD, password protection, hiding programs, free memory and current program memory displays, memory locking, battery testing, AWS (advanced warning system), and background pictures. "HackNiN" says the size will be a little larger than Aurora but the quality will be much better. Beta testers are no longer needed, however programmers are wanted. As for the release date, that is still unknown.

Can you make an assembly game that would work without a shell?

Isn't there an item in the 92's catalog that runs assembly without a shell? On the 86 there's a command that looks like this "Asm(". I find it hard to believe that an 86 which is less advanced than a 92 has a feature that it doesn't.

As I recall, the 83 and 86 were released after the 92. When the 92 was released built-in ASM support wasn't being asked for, so it wasn't included. As I understand the 83, 86, and 89 have some form of built-in ASM.

I saw that you needed programmers and I would like to learn to help. I just got a graph link and wanted to learn assembly language programming. I have built programs that people like and wanted to learn to make them more efficient, but I haven't been able to get TI to release any info on asm programming so I saw this as a good chance to learn. I have had a similar idea myself and even thought out ways to create an easy to use mouse. I'll help however I can if I can have information on assembly information.

I hope Windows 2000 will also support TI-83 or Ti-89 very soon! I can't wait to get it!

You should be careful what you call your software. Microsoft may try and seek a lawsuit.
