Nightblade has its ups and downs. The graphics suck and so do the skills, but it has a nice storyline and some interesting features.

Graphics: 3/10 Horrible. 6x6 sprites (I never knew they made any) are just plain ugly. The good thing is that you can replace them (although the replacements need to be 6x6 pixels too).

Controls: 7/10 A lot to remember. I also want the use of 2nd instead of ENTER.

Gameplay: 6/10 Pretty fast. Also interesting battle system. However, the stats are screwed up. I almost died at level 1 (but its level 0 in NightBlade) because I missed 90% of the time! The spells are also not balanced out well enough, and neither is the HP/MP during level up.

Storyline: 10/10 Most RPG's have boring, straight, cliche storylines. Nightblade, however, is completely different. It has and original storyline and many choices that make the story non-linear. This is possibly the only good factor about NightBlade, although I do have a minor complaint about no side-quests that have nothing to do with the storyline.

Overall: 6.8/10 It would not get such a bad score if it were not for the graphics and the unbalanced gameplay.

“Nightblade” had ups and downs with me but eventually ended at a pit. I'll admit, with a little tweaking the game could be very good, but in its current state it's hardly worth playing.

Starting out is tough, the enemies are too difficult and there's no clear area to go to. Not to mention, go one screen off and get mauled by some extremely high-leveled enemy.

Magic in this game is broken. You can only add a maximum of 5 MP to your character each level ( and that's sacrificing everything else) and the basic attack spell costs 5 MP.

Oh, and did I mention that whilst you were putting all your points into MP just so you could cast a decent amount of times without drinking an Elixir (which only restores 10 MP by the way) you end up missing out on Willpower so you can even avoid missing with those costly magic spells?

Combat on the macro scale is charming, but broken as well. Adding dex upon dex point still leaves my character missing frequently, though agility seems to work well enough. Armor and Weapons are severely overpowered, causing strength to be an unnecessary attribute, and adding to HP to be unnecessary.

This combined with the lackluster graphics, the huge file size, and the large amount of "dead space" in the game make for a very unpleasant experience.

Gameplay: 6/10 (The combat is fun despite its flaws.)
Balance: 2/10 (Broken.)
Graphics: 2/10 (Only redeeming feature is the ability to add your own.)
Concept: 8/10
Overall: 5/10

It could be very wonderful with a little work.

Note! This review was written for a previous version of this file!

"Night Blade" is by far one of the most interesting and well done games that I have seen or played in quite a while. The graphics, gameplay, and speed are to be commended. This program s a work of art and a must try.

10/10 grade
